That is what I have been using. No complaints other than I had to put a pretty good bit of torque on all the fittings to keep it from seeping - but I imagine all units suffer that. Probably has a lot to do with my not wanting to put so much on the plastic fittings that they would break.
My water is not very bad, input is running about 110 and of course output is 0.

That would have been my next attempt.
I found that using between 4-5 turns of tape and getting pretty strong that it did the job.
I'm more used to plumbing with metal fittings, didn't want to overtorque the plastic and end up splitting them all, so basically just applying a little more torque at a time until it was all dry.
