this sucks... my tank is going to be a MESS for a few weeks.. it took a long time to get it where it is and then i added a coral beauty which came with a prize (no QT)...
hopefully this stuff works.

Well that sucks. how long as the tank been up? How big and what's in it? How stable do you keep it?
I ask these questions because if you have a stable enviroment, low and stress free bio-load, you can beat ick with no chemicals. Garlick soaked foods will help. If the fish is not stressed it can beat it itself.
HTH, good luck either way

it's only a 40... i added a fish i shouldnt have... i regret it, especially considering i RARELY see him...
until now, i've only had issues with phosphate levels due to tap water, i thought i was home free but i wanted a new fish... i should have went with 2 chromis but i didnt...
i am also soaking in garlic...
i'm not worried about my coral, i'm worried about how nasty the tank will look after 2 or 3 weeks with no skimming or carbon.
last time i went without carbon i had a pink fuzz breakout.

Personally I'd avoid any chemical additives to treat ick in my display...there are other options available. if I were dealing with the same issue I'd remove the fish...treat them with hyposalinity...and allow the infected display to be fishless for at least 8 weeks before returning fish to the display.

ya, i'd do that too...
if i didnt have to remove all my rock to get the

[hr]
... and go buy a new tank for qt.. and a new filter...

i would definatly do the hypersalinaty for your tank I hope you havent put the rid ich in yet.Im very new to the reef set up just starting out accually, but I have a 125 gal agressive FOWLR i did the unspeakable so far it has worked in my favor but it wasnt without cost of my LR.not I purchased a few different fish this month but the one that did it in was a large grouper my QT was full of feeder fish at the time so I couldnt QT him like I should have I ended up with a tank full of ich and also a bactrerial infection in a few of my fish.i wasnt worried about the sanils and glass amenomes of course but more about the lasting effects on the LR and CC 1/2 dose of copper safe for ich along with 7 days treaments of pimafix and melafix for bacterial infections.the fish are doing fine we are in our 4th day alll doing better snails sill going strong all glass amenomes and any dusters i had have shrivled up from the coppersafe.plz think very hard before adding copper additives to your show tank.id hate to see you lose all the wonderful corals and anenomes you have worked long and hard for.the residual effects of the(copper) rid ich could mean the loss of many.

I had an ich prob for about 2-3 weeks and lost some fish. Didn't have a QT so I grabbed the fish that I could and did about a 1 min freshwater dip. I then bought cylopeeze wafers and began feeding them with the new food about twice-a-day. within a week or so...... NO ICH. And I am ich free for about 3 months now.... fish colors are much more vibrant now as well :)
good luck to all

oh yes if your able to do the freshwater dip if you treat the fresh dip water with melafix it will reduce the stress on your fish.

kick ich isnt copper.. it's supposedly reef safe, we shall see....
as for the fresh dip, i keep reading that it doesnt work... the only GOOD method is hypo and copper.
i'm hoping garlic, kick ich, and water changes will do the job for me.... however, if i lose my fish, i want them to die fast so it's not dragged out on them.

I have used kick ich with awesome results.follow the directions to the tee ,if u need to turn on the skimmer periodically make sure to redose the tank.It is completely reef safe and does not affect any of the water parameters.Good luck

I'm currently in the same boat. Last weekend I noticed my tang looked a little funny.(That sounds a lil funny too, come to think of it) Of course I did the naturaly thing and swore a lot. I've been treating the fish with garlic for the past week and it looks to be at perfect health currently. My basement did stink of garlic for the majority of the past week but it appears to haved worked. Well just my .02 cents good luck in your battle.

garlic itself doesnt kill ich what the garlic supliment accually do id boost your fishes natural imune system enabling them to fight the diseases just like vit C works for keeping away the common cold.but technically not a cure

I think that the hardest thing to figure out about the meds is the correct dose to use. A 120 gallon tank sometimes only holds about 90 gallons after you subtract the glass and the actual water level. The rock and other items are also going to take away water volume so it is really hard to get anywhere close to the correct water volume for dosing information.

not true.. i have a few awesome articles you should read about it...
and as for garlic, it says that possibly the reason it works is the odor in the fish's skin is garlic-ish, making the ich not want to attach...
i've worked at health food places... you can smell the people who use garlic....
