Oooooh...speaking of feeding corals...
I am always amazed at my "sun polyps" (NOT the sun corals but like large zoanthids..I think most people call em button polyp?) when i feed the tank. the mysis will swhirl around the tank,a dn almost always a mysis shrimp will get caught by a sun polyp. the sun polyps then close in on it..REALLY fast...it is pretty neat too watch...
OOH! my porcelain crab made a rare appearence today!! He definantly molted, because he is HUGE!

Here is where I put on my embarrassed face...I didn't realize that these guys needed to be fed. Fortunately for me, they've ('shrooms and frogspawn) always have taken what they've needed, I think. Last week I was feeding my "big guys", as my HB calls them, them and I noticed that a big piece of Prime reef landed on my fuzzy 'shroom, one on my other 'shroom, and a couple near my frogspawn. Well, ok, they ate, but this week I did spot feed...they were very happy about it and I will continue to do that.
I have a question for you and Celancthr...
One of my 2 brittlestars has NOT been seen for a long, long time. Today I finally saw the little guy trying to crawl up the back of the tank...missing 3 LEGS!!! The other brittle is perfectly fine, getting out and eating. I've heard on other threads that brittles will reproduce in this manner??? Advice is greatly appreciated on this.

Once my dad finishes my stand for my 55 the blenny and some of the barncles will proably being going in. All he has left to do now is put the stain and finisher on. I'll try to get some more pictures of the barncles later, they're starting to get covered in algae now.

Also, right now the brittle star is very vulnerable, considering that a brittle stars need at least 3 legs to feed/move effectively. And since I assume that this is a larger star, that you intentionally put in there, then that means that it probably originally had 5 legs, so that means right now it has only 2, which (as I stated earlier) means that it will have a difficult time hunting.
Spot feed it...like if it takes a shrimp today then give it another one tommorrow, and if it takes the shrimp tommorrow then feed it another shrimp the next day. Like make sure it is eating...very important for it's well bieng right now.

Lisa, nothing to be embarassed about, we have to learn as we go or else we could never go forth if you know what I mean. Not sure about the brittle. Could Scampi have been after it a bit? Maybe roo will have more insight since he seems pretty knowledgable about all things invert.

That is definitely something that I've thought about...been thinking and looking for this addition for quite a while. I do have a plan in place for cleaning...I know that could be a problem. Thanks tons.

I think that barnacle looks awesome. Something a little different. And BBB's little goby peeking out looks so cute! Reading about everyone's tanks makes me so ITCHY to start mine! :thinking:

Thanks Fishmamma!! Actually, it's 55 whole gallons!! I am just too excited! I have my stand all picked out and am starting to put together my list of what is going to live in it! I think this is the part where it starts to get hard to be patient...at least I can live vicariously through my mom's tank

Yes, I'm very lucky! My mom has learned and taught me a TON already
. I just really want to make sure my tank is as healthy as hers!

How do I find it??? Like I said, this is the first time that I've seen the little guy in weeks!! When I've given "treats", I've seen his arm come out and take some of the food, but I haven't seen him out and about. I want to take care of him and nurse him back to health. Should I just over feed the tank??? No. Don't want to do that.
IF I can find him, he'll get prime reef everyday till I can net him and isolate him somehow. Geez...I feel crappy about this lil' guy. He's been in my tank for so long!!
I'll do what I can for him...I'll let you know...

Oooh, do you have a QT tank??? that would be the absolute best place for it...if you havve the time to acclimate it for a VERY long time.

Nope, no QT. I was thinking about getting one of those quarantine net thingys for it and placing a peice of pipe or rock in it for it to hide...what do you think???

OK, I'm back tracking here (with the posts). His central disk is totally unaffected, did you see that as well Beth. I'm not sure what his "common" name is, but he's a black brittle star? Also, I thought he looked kinda small...geez

K, if his cenral disk is unaffected then it is extremely unlikely that the reason for the missing arms was reproduction.
It was probably one of these things:
a)It is stressed by something
b)Somethign attacked it
c)a rock or something fell on it, and instead of trying to wrestle the arms from under the rock,it just dropped em.
