Lawnmower Blenny

I have a 55g tank with around 60 lbs of live rock.
My question is, do lawnmower blennies have any special care requirement? I have a small hair algae problem, and was wondering if a blenny would be a good option.

Also how to get it to eat in quarantine and in the event that the algae supply in the DT runs out.
My current plan is to make sure it eats at least nori before purchasing, and then try to convince it eat spirulina flakes, and then formula flakes. I don't think I'll waste my time with mysis :D.
All tips and experiences welcome!

mysis is a waste of time. You will be good with a lmb if you QT it make sure it eats some type of alge sheet. Once he is in your tank and eats all the gha . I am sure you have film alge on your glass. They love that crap.

Hooray, responces!
Anyway, it will be quarantined, so It won't have any live algae to eat.
I have nori, and spirulina & formula flake. I think I'll buy some small pellet too.
I was kidding about the mysis. :D
What about broccoli?

I was hoping you would respond, I've heard of your success with this fish.
Has it always eaten everything?
If not, how did you get it to?

Honestly....I have done nothing....I just put the food in...and they eat it....even my mandarins
My first mandarin died. I recently got a second, and I have seen it go after the frozen foods too

I know I have lots of pods...and even algea for the LMB.....Maybe they just like my vitamin enriched foods

Haha, are you like the fish whisperer or something? It seems like everything you have eats everything!
The problem is I don't know what a lot of algae is. The back wall is covered though.
What do you feed your LMB?
You don't do anything
special?

I'll just make sure it's eating some form of prepared foods before I buy it.
So far, I've been pretty good at getting things to eat.
Even sick stuff.

broccoli will pollute your tank.
Algae sheets are what you need, clip it on and leave it in the tank..he will find it. It really isn’t a good idea to get a lawnmower blenny for a small hair algae problem.
Check your phosphates, don’t overfeed the tank, only use RO water and do regular water changes. The hair algae will go away. A better hair algae eater is a pigmy angelfish, when algae runs out they will accept regular fish food with no problem and won’t starve.

I don't just want it for the algae eating, the more I've heard the more I want this fish in my tank.
But I don't want to kill one.
How hard is it to get one on a diet of prepared foods?
Also, when you say algae sheets, do you mean nori, or those seaweed sheets liken Ocean Nutrition makes?
It will have to survive three weeks on prepared foods when it is in quarantine.
And I won't buy one if it isn't eating prepared foods well.
Thanks for all the help, and more is always welcome!

i have a lawnmower in my 40 gal with about 50 pounds of LR. i had a minor algae problem, my LMB, flame angel, and twin spot blenny are taking care of it. i have a slight phosphate problem so there are always algae blooms all over the place. its really annoying but i think its under control with my algae patrollers LOL.

How long have you had your LMB?
Does it eat anything other than algae?

my LMB eats all day long, just picking at the rocks and glass. I don't feed him anything special. I see him go after the amphipods on the glass. He is a little piggy, has a belly on him.

I was curious whether you would post here.
Anyway, you just have enough algae for it.
Have you ever tries feeding it?

Is nori really that nutritious?
I mean, will it be a good food source if the algae runs out in my tank?

ive had my LMB for about 4 months now. it was my first fish in the new 40gal. it still only eats algae off the rocks but any day now it will start eating frozen foods. my former LMB ate only algae but when it ran out it started to eat frozen.
