How long did it take them to die? I had one that would not eat in my tank, I tried everything, nori, there was quite a bit of algea growing in the tank, but it would not eat anything and slowly wasted away, I won't get another one, as I have little to no algae in my tank.

The first one lived long about 1.5yrs untill the aptisa took over. That was 2.5 years ago.The next two about 5 mts each.food is plentifull.Iguess I want get another.

I had a similar problem with a lawnmower. He never ate. I love the way they look but just couldn't keep him. I have a Redlip Blenny now...Cleaned up the tank and actually eats Brine Shrimp. :notsure:

Hey arjayl, Did the redlip blenny eat hair algae too? If so, can you let me know where and how much you purchased it for. I'm from Chicago. Thanks,

Hes actually very funny. SWF.com actually sell them but I purchased mine from ***** in Oak Lawn. He was one of the first and I've had him for over 4 years. His fins have recently begun to change a light pink/redish color. When the Clown chases him, he will hide in a hole in the rock. When the clown passes by him while he's in the hole, he grabs ahold of the clowns fin...Scares the crap out of the clown.
I bought him for $18. He was about 1 1/2" long when I bought him. He's 4" now.
Between himself, the Yellow Tang, and the Cleaner crew, there is little to no algae in the tank. I've also seen him eat some Cyno when I had an outbreak.
I can recomend some stores..Not sure where your at. :notsure:

That's a bummer
. If you do get another one make sure he's eating prepaired foods before you buy him.

I was having problems with my LMB at first also.
He mowed (sorry, to easy of a pun) through my hair algae, would nip at my macroalgae, but would eat no prepared foods.
He kept having a shrunken belly, I was really starting to worry. He wouldn't eat dried seaweed, mysis shrimp (didn't really expect him too), flake, anything.
Finally, I went to the LFS where I bought him, and asked them what they were feeding their livestock.
Ironically, I buy the same food that they were feeding my LMB, get home, put in some flake for my other fish. What does my LMB do?
Starts eating the flake. Really digs on the other food too though. Seems like all of a sudden, he realized that what the other fish are eating, he can eat it to.
What can you do.
Good luck with your LMB, definitely a pretty good fish!

I didn't ask that to start a debate. There are a few elements in tap water that algae sequesters quickly. These particular elements either make algae taste bad, or can actually make it toxic. If the algae gets enough to protect itself then a LMB isn't going to eat the algae. Just a thought.

Iuse the american pharmasuticals filter.I read the forum on this prduct.I use it because I think it is better than nothing.I am waiting for $$$ so I can get an RO unit. The filter is not that old used about 7 times =50gal or so.
