You already know I'm an attorney but to answer your questions, I went to University of Michigan for my bachelors and Wayne State University law school. If you go full time, law school is 3 years. Then the Bar Exam... :scared: :scared:
Also, I specialize in criminal law but do handle other types of cases including civil litigation, family law, collections, wills and trusts...

So, Jcrim, what kind of law do you specialize in? Do you work for a law firm or do you have your own? Also, what kind of degree did u get from law school? Masters or Doctorate? Sorry, this career path interests me as well.

Just to answer some of the questions presented. First, I am definitely not above the law. I've seen plenty of attorneys (and judges) get into trouble.
Spacegeek, my bachelors was in general studies and the degree from law school is a doctorate. I edited above to include my areas of practice. Finally, I have my own practice... it's nice to be your own boss... sometimes

Nice! So you can get a doctorate without a masters? Also, how do you set up your own law firm? You do not need to go into detail, because this could take hours, even days. I just want a general idea...THANKS!!

The degree is JD which stands for Juris Doctor. I set up my own firm pretty simply... got a cell phone for clients, got an office and started taking a lot of court appointments for the experience. Fortunately, I have a lot of people that have helped me get started by referring me clients. After a while, the clients start referring people and things grow from there. I've done a little advertising, but IME, referrals are where attorneys generate business. I'm going on my 6th year in practice now so my client base is pretty well established.

Nice! You have given me some VERY VALUABLE advice! Just out of curiosity, did you ever work for a law firm before making your own?

In law school, I had several jobs including clerking for law firms and interning for a judge who was on the Court of Appeals (now she's on the Michigan Supreme Court). In my second year of law school, I began working for the misdemeanor public defender's office in detroit. In this job, I was able to practice law as a student (with supervision). This gave me a ton of courtroom experience because I was doing trials before I was even an attorney. I continued to do this part time when I first started my practice.
