so its safe to assume that the par rating will be higher towards the top... whats an appropriate par level for sps to be kept

280 PAR or higher from what i have seen. start low with the sps and high with the lamp in your 10g. then move the sps closer to the top and see how it reacts. i would also not recommend the 40degree lenses they will burn whatever you have in the 10g. start with 80degee lenses.

thanks guys, everyone has been more then helpful. I do know theres alot more to sps then lighting but also know that without lighting you have no shot. But I will def get the 80 degree now.

he spent 300 per fixture, that's 900 for his 75 gallon tank. and thats DIY
he did say in there that it was overkill if you wanted the light lower though, so maybe he could get away with less and take off his optics lenses for more spread.
his application being that high just wouldnt work for everyone. but if you can do it and get away with it like he has, why not.

just ordered the Par38 with the 3 blues and 2 whites. Might get the powerbrite all blue stip to compliment it too.
