i think i will go with the first option, just a bit of work to do but that is OK!!
there is one more thing about this new driver, there is not a way to make ajustment on the driver? is that output now ajusted at the controler only and not on the driver and the controler??
thanks
david
Correct. The B version drivers don't have built in voltage or current adjustments like the A's do. So current will have to be adjusted via the pwm controller. The rated current output on those is 3.9 amp. so divide that by 4 strings and you get a maximum current output of 975mA per string. You are going to incorporate fuses and resistors, yes or no? I would recommend yes.
Indeed it's going to probably be like rebuilding the fixture for the most part all over again. But it will be worth it. At the very least you'll end up with a much more efficient fixture. And even though the inrush current may not be life threatening, less stress on contacts and things like that is a good thing. Jury is still out for me on whether or not the harmonics is an issue with 8 eln's, but with built in pfc on these driver then you can't go wrong. And the build should be alot cleaner in the end. I think you made a good choice.

yes i think you are right about making a better choice going this way, and i have some smaller things in mind for ELN's.
is there a post that i can look at that can help me with the fuses and resistors needed for the (rebuild)
thanks
david
P.S. if was fun the first time it will be fun this time lol

Yes, this is a great thread I think you should look over. You'll be doing pretty much the same thing this guy did. Lots of pics...http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2026851&highlight=led+zeppelin
And this is a good thread for beginners to understand how the fuses and resistors work. Links to where to get them, how to encorporate them and how to test your fixture. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1973462&highlight=jp+s+diy+
Hopefully they won't delete the links here. I know SWF.com is a sponsor over there so it should be ok.

thanks i'll go take a look!!
i'll keep you posted
david
p.s. is there anything you would like me test on the ELN's before i take it all apart, that will happen this weekend.
thanks again

time to go pick up some more parts. i'll start to take the (old) drivers off this weekend and rewire the LED's and (new) drivers.

yes i now what i need and thanks for the posts, however i live in a small town and having trouble finding the fuses and resistors.
i am about an hour away from a much larger city that will most likely have them. will have to see if not will have order online.
thanks

Even in a larger city you could drive around all day long and probably not find what you need. Online would be your best bet. And those links above are reasonably priced.

i was in the security business for a long time and there are two or three suppliers in s'port and one of theme has just about any thing someone would need for any electronics need, big or small
so i cheated some sorry

now that i have all of the things for the (rebuild) i am thinking of how to mount the system into my hood. as i was reading a thread, someone had said something about not to put electronics onto wood
most of our stands, hoods we build out of wood. that will be hard not to do, will that be a problem??? if not i have a plan

Digikey is definitely one of my suppliers, but you may want to keep Mouser in mind... IMO they are much more "friendly" to DIYers and small quantities.
Thanks, that's good to know. I've been over on Mouser's site a number of times but have yet to order anything from either place! Maybe I'll just go to Mouser when I get ready to order parts.

What's your plan?
The only thing that I could think of being a negative of mounting electronics on wood is that a spark or heat from a short could possibly catch wood on fire. Either that or in some cases if the wood is not completely dry it could potentially act as a conductor. I'd think if you're smart with your build and take precautions to avoid such things then the odds of either of those things happening would be very low. But potentially speaking anything is possible.

to start, i did not think it was a good thing for the drivers to be under the hood or under the tank in the stand.
the HLG's are IP67 and the ELN's or IP64 but not taking the chance.
ok on with the picsas you know i'll have one HLG for white and one for blue, the ELN for the red

Very good, Sir! I knew you could do it. Do you have the fuses in-line before or after the resistors?
