i have had my clown trigger 4 a mo. he is still getting his {EDIT LANGUAGE} handed to him by the boss of my tank b f angel aka rick ross lol he's doing good though he's eating good hides allot but he'll do just fine he's in a 125gl for now i plan on upgrading to a 400gl once my fish start getting big his tank mates are b f a ,naso t ,niger tr,big lion,harly tusk,sfe,yt coris and some big !red herms
tell me about your success stories with clown trigs and his tank mates
cant wait to hear them please b positive this is a pros tread not a cons!!!!

Just wait...The Clown Trigger in him will come out, they didn't get their rep by accident. They get more and more belligerant with age.
FYI, they are a 4 on the "Trigger aggression scale", Niger is a 2 or 3 (can't remember....The 5's are Undulate, Queen, Titan, Blueline, and a few more you don't see often.

just becuase a situation has two possible outcomes, it doesn't mean it's a 50/50 shot.
a 400 gallon tank will give you a better shot than a 125, for sure.

I feel sorry knowing that there are fish keepers out there willing to go against the odds and put beautiful fish in a situation they will not come out of alive.

WOW! what ever happened 2 a positive tread
1st off i love my fish sw is trial and error if my fish are in any danger i'll remove him i have a good relationship with my lfs + i'm sure no 1 who has posted on this tread has had one your only going on what u hear or read so i like 2 know 1st hand instead of hear say

I've heard that it's unwise to play with wild lions. I think I'm gonna give it a shot though... find out for myself.
One does not have to have personally made a mistake to share the wisdom that others have obtained in doing so themselves. Think of how dead you would be if that were the case.
Anyway, I have no experience personally with any of these fish. I hope your tank does well. Good luck!

telling the truth is possitive . Would you rather we lie to you and tell you what a great idea is ? Would that be more the response your looking for ? Why is it that everybody is going to change the rules and be the exception. why does everybody feel the need to BEAT THE STEROTYPE and atempt to keep combinations that have been tried before . Oh well when it kills you do at least have a back up plan so thats good .

other than feeling sorry for the cramped space your tanks mates are in, and you nitrate levels that are gonna go out the roof because of all the waste in that small space, your experiment must be costing you a pretty penny. if you can "beat the odds", more power to you.

Unfortunately this is a contradiction in terms. By the time "trouble" occurs, it will be when 1 or more fish are dead.
Sadly, everyone is being as positive as they can be.
As hobbyists, we use words like "experiment" way to loosely. We try to justify our behavior by saying "I'm doing an experiment" as though we are doing cutting edge scientific research. In reality, what we are all too often doing is going against known events and "hoping" for the best.
Scientists and researchers have ethics and a moral code that they should adhere too. As aquarists, if we are going to borrow their termonology, then we should also have a Code.
what safeguards have you put in place for your experiment? What backup plans do you have in case aggression begins? Who monitors your tank 24 hours a day? To say you "love your fish" but then place them in imminent danger just doesn't seem right to me.
Imagine how crazy it would be if I posted "I'm going to quit using SW for my reef tank. Let's beat the stereotype. Tell me your success stories using FW for your reefs...".

Oh geez, guys yeah okay so it's stupid, but if he/she can keep the nitrates down there is a chance.
We are dealing with live animals, not metals or magnets, compatibility may vary.
Ok a slim one, but I have hundreds of fish that DONT GET ALONG NO MATTER WHAT in 7 of my 7 aquariums, 5 of which have been set up 1-2 years, no losses.
Overstocking reduces aggression in many fish, turned my oscars in to big loveable teddybears, even my green terror who is sexually mature isn't bothering anybody. Anybody how knows freshwater can say WTF. I have many aquariums, and always a back-up... plus I work at my LFS so I can give away whatever I want to them. I realize saltwater fish are more difficult, intelligent, and complex, but everybody in this hobby ALWAYS thinks they know EVERYTHING. I don't care how long you've been in the hobby or if you have 150 tanks, you are NOT a credible source.
10 years ago, fishkeeping was TOTALLY different, and compatibility of fish has changed SUBSTANCIALLY over the last 10 years. Why would this be?
Because we NEVER really know what can get along with what, and in what circumstances, all fish are individuals.
I can tell you, however that I have NEVER met a nice clown trigger, who can be with anything but only the most aggressive fish, and I've probably met over 100. That is one "experiment" I won't try, but my Niger, Rectangulus trigger, Banana Wrasse, Lunar Wrasse, Hardwicki Wrasse, Maroon Clown Pair, Dogface Puffer, Spotted Sweetlips (yes I know shutup), Couple Damsels, Flame Hawk and Volitan Lion that make up my FOWLR tank is all worth a try. So far nastiest fish in there by far are the two triggers, but no damage to anybody, they stay on opposite sides of the tank, then when it's feeding time spend all their time chasing eachother while everybody else stuffs their face. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.
Anyway, moral of the story is quit acting like you all are professional "compatibility experts". Nobody would ever think a fat guy like me who looks inbred would drive such a nice car that I do and have a skinny GORGEOUS brunette for 6 years and about to marry her either. THAT breaks compatibility rules. These are live animals we're comparing, not cars. They aren't all built the same.

people always wine on here about whats right and wrong, how many fish you can have in what size tank!
if he has enough filtration and a skimmer nitrates will be fine. i have an over stocked 20g and have tons of filtration in it and a skimmer rated for 55g+ (aquaC remorea with maxijet 1200)
give the guys some slack, if a fish gets hurt put in a diff tank or the LFS THE END!

Its not a matter of high nitrates at all. It is a proven fact by many, many people that Lions and Triggers for one thing just do not mix well. I had a 2.5 inch humu humu trigger tear apart a 9 inch Volitan Lion and that is a trigger that isnt as aggressive as a clown.
This is really just a bloodbath waiting to happen. Its not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when"
