Let's hear from folks who have experience with Sally Lightfoots...

I've read conflicting versions of whether the Sallys are reef-safe at various websites, books, web-boards (including this forum) - even fish stores seem to disagree. Since research is not clearing the issue up, I want to know what your experiences with the crabs are. No speculation, no "I've read this...", but first-hand experiences only please.

Have you
had problems with your Sally Lightfoots? With aggressiveness towards inverts? Fish? Coral?
Thanks in advance! I look forward to reading your stories.

I have a sally in each of my tanks....a 54G, a 29G, and a 225G...ONE SALLY in each...my tanks are also mixed reefs...
I have had no problems with them....and 2 out of 3 are quite large....they are quite the cleaners I must say too
THE only issue I can say is...I tried to put 2 in one of my tanks....and still ended up with one
SO, I am thinking one to a tank...LOL

I also started out with two and one disappeared. I was also very worried because I read two different versions where some said reef safe and others say not. I had no trouble out of mine, but when it went missing a few years later I didn't replace it, why chance it, I seldom even spotted the critter.

I've never heard of them eating coral but they are opportunistic omnivores and will eat a fish or shrimp if they can catch it. Hand feeding them is the best way to discourage them from preying upon weaker animals.

And they really like scallops...LOL...Mine come out at feeding time, and they each get a piece of scallop...with tongs of course

I even feed the Emeralds scallops if they come out...BUT the scallops are really for the anemones and duncan

I could go for some scallops right now, with a nice sauce and a little pasta! Mmm. Must be dinner time. :p
