You should get that nudibranch out of your tank right now. They need a certain type of sponge and most usually die within 9 months. If they die in your tanks, the whole tank will be poisioned.

That is correct. Almost all nudis die in captivity.

That is just plian old false...they are algae eaters...they can possibly ink if stressed...they likely wouldn't damage a system if they did...they can have a fairly short life span and they can tend to be sucked into powerheads and such because they don't swim very well.

One of the Lfs I go to won't even carry them, because they wiped out three of their tanks, and this is one of the most experienced stores in Michigan.

NM, is it not correct that most of them eat sponge?

Some nudis can be diet specific in regard to sponges...but the lettuce is not one of them. Its been my experience that they prefer bryopsis algae and can be very effective at helping to control it...but...they can be a little difficult to maintain for long periods of time due to their limited diet and tendacy to get sucked up in powerheads.

I was reading a really cool article recently about the Lettuce sea slug. The author said that he/she never had much succes until he/she tried the sea slug in a tank that had really strong lighting, and an overwhelming amount of bryopsis.
the most interesting part was that if the tank had enough bryopsis to sustain the sea slug through its whole life time then it would never eradicate the algae, which seems to indicate that lettuce sea slug's are a poor choice of bryopsis control compared to other methods.

Elysia is the Genus but I don't think that's what you wanted to know. Elysia crispata are Sacoglossans.
Sacoglossia and Nudibranchia are suborders of Opisthobranchia.
