What kind of rock was it? Figi? Carribbean? I was thinking about ordering some from them. Was shipping free?

If you know thw website, just look for the toll-free # and call. I tried to find out what shipping was, but I couldn't online.

Im from milwaukee and we have a few decent places. There is a place downtown milwaukee that will sell pre-cured fiji rock for 4.99 a pound if you buy over a 100lbs. they also have tonga rock for 5.99 if you buy over 100lbs. Other than that people around this are want 7-9/lbs. crazy if you ask me. I actually bought a BTA from a local store and it was attached to the rock they had and they said "i dont want to remove it from the rock and risk damaging the bta (thank you), but i have to charge you for the rock" they wanted to charge 9.99 a lbs for that. I told them forget it and they then gave me the rock for free (it was maybe 2lbs)

Folks, please show some respect... I deleted several threads mentioning competitor sites (one in particular).
There are many companies online that sell SW livestock. Few of them, however, have shown the dedication and love to our hobby as the owners of SWF.com. This message board is a testament to that.
If you don't want to buy from them that is your choice. Advertising for a competitor site, however, is rude and unacceptable behavior.

I am considering buying online because the stores locally - well they just suck.
I thought correline only came in purple, until a couple days ago. I would like all the colors that I can get as possible. Does the live rock from SWF come with lots of colors? I also don't want precured because I want the diverity in my tank not somewhere else.

I loved the description of his reaction...
"My jaw dropped and knocked my wallet out of my hand and untied my shoe".
I cracked up and that peeved my husband because he thought I was laughing at him - coincidental moment of stupidity on his part.
Anyway - I love it when people are able to take something so frusterating and make it so interesting to read for us.

Yeah I have a LFS in framingham that had live rock for a REDICULOUS 10 bucks a lb. Another one in Ludlow had it at 7 bucks a pound, which I gladly paid for a nice 1.5 lb piece that was almost 100% encased in coralline.

Im in S. Florida .. where you think they would be paying you to take live rock....
Ive never seen LR under 8.00/lb, mostly 9-10.00/lb and some stores sell 'carribean' or 'tonga' or some 'advertised super nice rock' for like 14.99/lb... and no they dont look any different.
I think most of the LR here is 'florida harvested' even though they advertise as 'carribean' or tongan or whatever just to get a better dollar.
Kinda sucks when you are trying to put 1.5lbs of rock per gal of water to make a nice reef. The LR was one of the largest costs of the tank setup!

Well, I live just above Modesto, CA and I have access to several stores, too, but the corals and fish here are not cheap. Now if you live in L.A. and have a wholesale license you can go directly to the distributors at the airport, where they get everything directly from the islands. There you can probably buy for very little. But, by the time they reach the lfs up here, the prices are a little above what they are online, just without the shipping costs. The store I bought my live rock from was $4.99/lb but the others are $5.99-$8.99/lb. And what I bought was mostly Tonga Kaileni, a Fiji Pukani and a couple of little pieces of Totoka. I have yet to see many corals available and the fish variety is very iffy. Your grandkids must live in Southern California.

Yeah, I almost went by there a couple of weeks ago on my way home (Escalon) from Pinole, where I grew up, but it was too late by the time I left. Anyway, I hear it's a very nice store and I can't wait to check it out. It's still almost an hour's drive for me.

Well speaking of ridiculous prices, there is one LFS near san jose where they are selling it for $8 a pound, plus I was told they will also weight the water in the bucket which is about 2 gallons in 5 gallon bucket. I asked why and they said "we don't want little critters on the rock to die, so we can't weigh the rocks separately" Ridiculous.

OceanLover, could you tell me the name of the store? Is $2.99/ pound for fiji rock?
