Lighting Problems with 300

Alright I got a problem.... I only have 4 inches of clearance between the canopy and the acrylic. Metal Halides are out of the question I think they will burn everything down... How about 12 4 foot-110Watt VHO bulbs with icecap ballasts, the tanks height is about 26 inches from the DSB to the top. I can't think of anything else..I do not plan on keeping clams and some of the hard corals I know its going to be expensive to replace them, but its a custom tank and canopy (out of the question to replace)... Thanks, Justin

hey duece by means i am no expert but if your not gonna keep sps hard corals or clams you can go with vhos and with vhos you can keep clams and acroporas there are tanks that run only on vhos and raise clam and acroporas its just people perfer metal halide because growth is amazing with metal halide imo hope that helps

three IceCap 660s will be sufficient lighting. You're not going to be able to have a devoted SPS tank or keep Crocea, but you can still have a very nice reef :) My current reef (155 bowfront) has six 72" VHO's for lighting. 3 URI SuperActinic and 3 URI AquaSun. I'm pleased with the growth, the looks, and the health of all my animals.
My previous reef was mostly Acros with 400 watt Iwasaki MV's and I'm just as happy with the VHO only. I'm a lot more choosy with what I keep, and placement is crucial, but it's not as limited as the MH bigots would have you believe.
