Lighting...

Are Seahorses sensitive to lighting? My two boys are very different. Valiant is out all the time....his friend hides all day in the rocks, and once the MH have been off for a half hour or so he comes out and swims all over. :notsure:

I'm certainly NOT an expert, but it has been my understanding that seahorses do not like high lighting. Maybe try putting 3 pieces of window screen over the tank and acclimate him that way...take a piece of screen off every 3 days. PCs are fine for them, but I'm not too sure about MH's. IDK...I plan to re-institute my PCs on my seahorse tank.
Haven't you named that guy yet???

I'm not really that familiar with seahorses either but I was just at my local public aquarium this past weekend and they have fairly low level lighting over their seahorse tank.

It is my personal belief that seahorses prefer low lighting, though I have gotten slammed down for that belief, being reminded that seahorses are also found in shallows where "the sun is very bright". I guess we know I think that's whooey. I know they do live in shallows, but that's a bit different than our aquariums...just my opinion.
They have very good eyesight (think about their hunting abilities and the prey they hunt) and I don't believe they need the lighting to be at high levels. I also know that my own girls were very active when the lunars were on. This is when the pods are active, also.
Again, just my opinion.

I will definately have to look into that. THis morning both of them were out, but as soon as the MH came on they disapeared in to the rocks

How about Sir Bashful?
He never comes out. He's hard to see. I think he's shy. A shy, sweet, sensitive fish...
