It is fluctuating between 1.008 and 1.009, I check twice a day. I'm starting to wonder if its not ick, it might be Lymphocystis. I'm going to continue the hypo for the duration just as a precaution and it not bothering the butterfly.

Well he's been in hypo for three weeks and its not ick it is Lymphocystis, the pictures don't show it that great but it is.

I'll be raising the salinity back this week. He is still only eating 3 different foods, mysis, butterfly formula and squid. I guess I will just leave him in QT till virus is passed.

for those that aren't familiar with this disease, could you give us some background and why you think it is Lymph rather than ick?

The spots are bigger and fluffy looking, ick is smaller and basically has the appearance like salt. Also he has been in hypo for three weeks and the spots have not fallen off. Ick can only stay on there host for only 7 days then falls off.

The Red Tail been in QT now for 6 weeks. Last week raised salinity back up to 1.025, he doing fine, eating every bit of Angle/Butterfly formula and mysis. He still not interested in other foods. Its been 4 weeks since I noticed the Lymphocystis spots, the original spot is gone but new ones had appeared during the 4 weeks and the one on its dorsal fin has tripled in size. I guess he will be in QT a while longer. My granddaughter thinks its great to have fish in there, because it is down at her level for viewing.

well today he looks 80% better the 2 spots on its dorsal fin and lower fin has decreased in size by more than half. He still has small spots on it sides. Other than that all is doing fine. Water prams are all normal, will be doing a water change. Eats every bit of the Angel/Butterfly formula, eats a couple bites of squid then realizes its not mysis and spits it out. Will try formula 1 tonight again.
PS: I hugged Lilly for you Richard, to tell you the truth I hugged her a few times.

Can't wait to see him in the DT!
Curious about the squid, my guys act like a 4 year old with a happy meal when they get squid...

I can't wait either but not until he's 100%. The spot on the dorsal and lower fin are completely gone. Still a spot on its snoot and side. Never tried the formula 1 food spent the whole weekend painting my daughters new house. I got what was quick and new he would eat, mysis.

UPDATE!
Last night for the first time since I introduced this fish to the QT there are no viable spot on him. So plan is if there are no reacquiring spots come a week from this Wednesday Red will go up in DT. Yes I name my fish, but they are names like Yellow Guy; Lattice butterfly, Orange Guy; Chevron; Saddle's; Falcula butterfly; Coral and Marlin; Clowns and Mad Max; Hippo. The PBT is nameless, I don't now why, I just been calling him PBT.

Richard on no means add a butterfly to a reef tank. The only one that could go in is Coral Banded and B4 you do talk to BTLDreef.

no worries. Funny thing is that my brain had already translated that to copper band butterfly lol.
(I think it's because I have seen her tank with it)

Red is not out of the woods yet. This morning he has two patches of what looks like raised scales like warts, on each side of his body. So that means Lymphocystis is still in his system or secondary fungal disease has set in. Either way he is not leaving QT till he 100%. Other than that he is eat well and other than the patches is looking great. I'll take some pictures of him chowing down on his new found favorite food claims on half shell. I might even try to down load a video. First have to get my son-in-law show me how to use his camera.

The raised patches have gone down a little this morning but still noticeable. Only time will cure, waiting patiently.
