Lion Fish

:help: Recently i just bought a new tank so i transfered everything over to my new tank. Sence then my lion fish has sat up in the corner and swam upside down. i fed him yesterday and he ate all the shrimp but then now he sits in the corner. He will everynow and then dive and his bottom fins are like vibrating/shaking. Also he occasionally opens his mouth really wide like he's yawing or gagging. I was wondering if there is something i need to do or if its normal. :notsure:

sounds to me like the tank is cycling.... shoulda left em in the old tank until all readings in new tank were 0... did u acclimate him properly to the new tank?? what are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, salinity, Alk levels?? how long ago did u set up the new tank??

Yup. Sounds like a seriouse stress reaction.
Test your water!. Alk, Ammonia, Ph and so on.
Did you keep your old tank usable?.

No the reason i had to switch tanks is because the other one started leaking. all my other fish i transfered are doing just fine. What should i do about him? I started out the new tank with my damsal's and let them cycle, for 2 days, thats what my local saltwater store suggested and then i transfered him in as i was worried as the water was lowering quicker. In the old tank he would do this but not for as much time. Is there anything i can do?

He also didnt start this until a couple hours after i fed him. I dont know if that would have anything to do with it.

Well I tested it all out when before i transfered, and they were all under 5 i dont remember the exact's, they werent very reliable in the past i know, but thats all i had, I ordered a new testing kit but it hasnt arrived. So until that arrives what should i do any suggestions?

There is not much you can do without knowing your water parameters. I would probably just take your water to your LFS so you can have them test it, so that at least you can do something for the fish.

Lionfish are pretty resilient, but I would not take it for granted one way or another. Take your water to the LFS to have them check it so you can fix whatever problem(s) there may be. Saying that your levels were all "under 5" is not very good, because any ammonia or nitrite above 0 can be dangerous.

Well i did test the water and it was under 5 for sure, and i didnt have any time to wait any longer as the reason i had to get a new tank was because the old one was leaking and leaking fast. When i first put him in he acclimated and was swimming around perfectly fine. Then on sunday i went and bought some ghost shrimp for him and he ate them all and ever sence then he has been hanging in the corner. So why would he have been perfectly fine then all of a sudden change after he ate?

I got bag from my local fish store and caught him and put him in there and did the dripping method mentioned on this website is what i did thank you. I did notice that there is a white dot near his fin on his body. Could that have anything to do with this. And if he was swimming around fine how could there be a problem?

I turned off the lights on the aquarium to reduce the stress as i saw suggested in another post any my lion fish imidiately came down from the corner and is swimming perfectly fine and fast and isnt vibrating or shaking his bottom fins. Could this mean my tank has stray voltage? if so what can i do to check if thats the problem, and if it is what can i do?

Ok i took my water in to the LFS and they checked it out everythings at 0 and the salinity is at 1.29. I asked him about my lion fish and he said that i should just leave the lights on the aquarium off for a few days to let him rest, and to help with the stress. Any other ideas of what it could be or is he wrong or should i go with what he said?
