your tank will be ok....as far as the clowns and the goby they will probably be eaten...it matters about the eel, some eels will atack any fish (even bigger then themselves) and some wont even try to eat the smallest fish..

all should go well together as long as fish are not very small they will be ok.make sure all smaller fish are big enough to not fit into lions mouth.i have always kept lions in my tanks and had very few losses in 3 1/2 yrs to them maybe 3 damsels in 2 yrs isnt bad record.but who likes damsels anyways lol.but species wise thy are all compatible including SFE.ps i have lost more smaller fish to my sebae anenome than i have to my lions

get a maroon or tomato clown about 4 inches and you can get decent size lion 5 to 6 " thats what i have on my 120 right now

well i definitley don't want to rain on your parade, everyone else seems to have no problem with any of it.... I am just a newbie, so take my advice as a grain of salt. I have been doing hours upon hours of research for about three months now, im actually going today to pick up my tank and stuff. the volitan is my fav sw fish. anyway from what i have heard on the many forum sites and other sites a volitan can grow to 15" if cared for correctly, everyone i have talked to has said that a 150gal would be a good size and that a tank under 100gal is too small. Also i was thinking about doing a snowflake with mine also: most people i talked to said it was no problem, but a few said that they had seen the snowflake bully the lion, even going as far as biting off beautiful fins!!! like i said i may be completely wrong, but i just wanted you to have both sides of the story. Thanks.

if you get a dwarf lion u'll be ok i think. unless you have a pair of those tiny clowns that are the size of a thumb nail.

Hi!
I can't help but reply to your topic. I've got a relatively large Lionfish in a 125 gal display. He's almost full size (much larger than the lionfish at our city zoo).
Honestly, if your going to get a 55, I'd really only think about keeping the lionfish only. If you go with the 72 bowfront, you might be able to add something else with the lionfish (maybe a pygme angel or something of similar size if you're looking for a small lion). Please keep in mind, however, that the lionfish does get very large much quicker than you think. He will eat anything that fits in his mouth, no matter what the price.
My advice, if you get the 55 or the 72, get the lion. But, also get some good lights to go with it and add some nice corals. A good looking reef tank with a specimen lionfish is really hard to turn away from. It would really be impressive. Anyway, just my two cents.

it depends on the kind of lion he gets. there are 5 different lions that don't get big at all: fu manchu, fuzzy dwarf, antennata lionfish, zebra, and a deepwater lion. these lions would have plenty of space in a 55 with room for other fish.

okay well i think i have a pretty set fish list...-
-1volitan lion
-2 sebae clowns (will they get big enough_ 2 black and white percs (will they get big enough) or 1 or a pair of maroon gold stripe
-1hippo tang or yellow tang (what do u guys think?)
1 convict tang
1 snowflake eel
so what im pretty much asking is about the clwons!? thanks

i would forget about the tangs .. i had wanted one in my 55 gallon but evryone says that they get too big and they need A LOT of room to swim. you might be able to get away with 1 tang - the MOST

i have heard the dont get a tang too but after seeing tank after tank after tank with 1,2, and even up to 8 tangs in a 55 i think i will be ok and i will watch them closely to seeif there is any problems
