you are best to scrape it off of the shell and let it fall into the water column as little shavings. it will float around and populate the rock that way.
you could very possibly have plenty of spores on the rock already. it just takes a few months to take off.
close but the shavings wont actually do anything the best thing is use a clean never used sorry had to add that toothbrush to gentle brush the coraline that you have. it wil take a few months for it to really start to grow once it starts as long as your water quality and calcium levels are in check it will take off.
as someone said above though coraline really loves lower light most people with MH lighting have a hard time getting it started and it takes a while for it to cover.
