I've noticed in most of the pictures i've seen, that all the live rock in the tanks have changed color to almost a pink or purple color... how long does this take? or do you have to put somethin in the water to make it hapen

That is called coralline algae. It a hard calcium fortified type of algae that many people prefer. It requires proper calcium and magnesium levels to thrive. It also grows best in tanks which have low lighting.

+1 but it can grow in high light tanks too, also most people prefer it because once it covers your rock it doesnt allow other algae to grow, or atleast it doesnt in my tank, i have algae where my coraline isnt but where i have it there is no other algae

Dosing calcium in your tank would help speed it up (make sure that you have tests kits for it though).

don't use things like "purple up" though...it will do more for nuisance algae than coralline.

i do have a random question about this... what if the coraline is introduced via shells of a snail... will that accelerate the growth or actually stimulate it?

you are best to scrape it off of the shell and let it fall into the water column as little shavings. it will float around and populate the rock that way.
you could very possibly have plenty of spores on the rock already. it just takes a few months to take off.

close but the shavings wont actually do anything the best thing is use a clean never used sorry had to add that toothbrush to gentle brush the coraline that you have. it wil take a few months for it to really start to grow once it starts as long as your water quality and calcium levels are in check it will take off.
as someone said above though coraline really loves lower light most people with MH lighting have a hard time getting it started and it takes a while for it to cover.
