So after a couple days, my ammonia is way up from the cooked shrimp (can I take it out now?). I did a 25% water change and reduced it by about 50%. My nitrites are up to 1.0 (I believe) and my nitrates are at zero. I plan to do another 25% water change tomorrow (Monday Nov 8th) and hopefully this will bring my ammonia back down to zero.
Is it safe to add a clean up crew now to help with some algae.

You can take the shrimp out, but don't do water changes yet...also do not ad anything until ALL levels are at 0 and stay there

Don't do any water changes... you want that ammonia to be in there so if can get processed.
How high did it get?

by the way, if you do a 25% water change you will reduce all numbers of trates, phos or whatever you have excess of by 25%
You can't really reduce anything by 50% by taking out 25% of the water and replacing ti with new fresh saltwater.
Just wait for the ammonia to go to 0 on its own, you want it to be cycled not manipulated. No more water changes until you have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites all on thier own.

so I checked my tank and I noticed that my ammonia is back down to a zero reading. When I checked it on Saturday it was at 0.8 (on my test kit). My nitrates are at 10, & my nitrites are at 0.2. I think I may have missed out on the high ammonia spiked since I waited for a couple days to test the water after adding the shrimp. Like I said before, my live rocks are back to looking normal, so I think that too probably helped out with the cycling. I'm curious to know what should my next step be? I'm not going to add anything untill after I paint my background. I had one of those background pics before, but after seeing some of you guys tanks I decided to go with the painting. My only problem is my tank is against the wall and I don't know how to get behind it. I was thinking of painting the front, and then when doing a water change getting someone to help me lift it and turn it around. Thanks again.

there is a background that I have seen on several peoples tanks here that is really nice. it looks like a painted blue background but the picture is angled upward so you see some surface water too. Really nice. might be alot easier than maving your tank with water rock and sand in it (not a good idea)
maybe someone else knows what Im talking about and where to get it if you're interested.

yes I would definitely be interested in that background pic if anyone knows what it is and where to find it.
I do have books on swf, but I like to be able to speak with people in order to get direct answers to my questions.

well, i googles it and I came up with some that were very similar but not the one i was thinking of.
one of my LFS's had them on all his little tanks so I could have asked him but he just closed down a couple weeks ago.

The blue part of this one is very similar to the one I was talking about. Except I don't recall it having the ocean floor on there. This one is actually pretty nice as well.

Did my water test today and I'm glad to say everything was down to zero (ammonia, nitrites, & nitrates). I guess it's okay for me to start adding cuc & fish.

Just start with a small CUC. I would just get a couple different type of snails. I would wait a couple of weeks to add the first fish.
