Hi all,
I bought a clownfish yesterday he was in a tank with probably 15-20 others. Guy at lfs said he would be fine by himself, but he is acting frantic all over the place, like he is trying to get out of the tank. should I have bought another? I have a green bubble coral (medium) and a small two head frogspawn. he has not gone to either one of them. should I get a tank mate for him? Or just let him settle?

other fish: coral beauty, small sixline, yellow tail blenny, and diamond goby.

probably just checking out the new surroundings. He will be fine by himself. also on a side note he may not ever go near your bubble or frogspawn. if he hosts it could be anything even just a spot on the sand.

Yeah. Still if you want a pair or think you'll want another clown in the future...now is to the time to get one. If you want just one clown, he'll be perfectly fine alone.

He may be fine alone, but everyone needs a friend...

I don't have any friends and look at me. I spend 24/7 on swf.com and I'm normal

IDK if they care, but I have 2 in each tank, and they seem happy together

Mine are still sorta kinda fighting. It's kinda neat to watch. The female is like 2x his size. She'll "do the funky tuna" That's what I call it. Then she'll go full speed at the male and he'll flip on his side and vibrate. Then she'll stop short and start swimming around. This happens like once every hour. It's awesome to watch their rituals. She doesn't seem to be hurting him and he isn't afraid of her. If they pair, I'm going to breed them. I've researched it since day one and would know exactly what to do...besides rays, that is the part of the hobby that I love most. I'm psyched about that!

I said exactly the same thing to the guy at the lfs lol! To which he replied "are you a psychologist?" (how rude!) I think he was just joking b/c I bought a 6line and in the 10 min. it took me to get home the fish died, so I went back and told him not to squeeze my fish this time when putting it in the bag. (I was just joking) but maybe he didn't think so. any how I really did want a pair I was just kinda reluctant b/c of the cost of the fish. But I can see already that the clown wants to be next to the new guy! thanks for your replies! here are some pics, we are still acclimating right now, but I'll post pics when he is released also.

It seems as though the first clown is going to be the she. This clown has already claimed a lot of the territory, so that's something it has...and it looks bigger.

Maybe....It's funny, the 2 in my 225g...hAVE never FOUGHT
The 2 in my 54g fight every other day

glad you are happy with your new fish hope they have fun together. Out of curiosity what were they being sold as? the reason I ask is because the first one is an ocellaris but the new ones stripes look to wide more like a percula. anyone else see what i mean?
not to worry though i'm sure they will still get along though.

They both look like TRUE ocellaris clowns to me.

Even if they weren't there is a really good chance that they'll be fine together and a really bad chance that they'll breed.

They were being sold as aquacultured fancy ocellaris at $29 a pop. although I got the second one at $26, since the new guy put it in the computer wrong. But the one I bought today has alot of black at the bottom, I'll try to get a better pic.

if they breed and they were from the same, idk what do you say spawn?/litter whatever, will I then have little inbred clowns?

Absolutely not. People who breed clowns get pairs all the time that have the same parents. They aren't like humans and it'll be perfectly fine. A percula and ocellaris may also breed making percularis clownfish...but to me it looks like you have two ocellaris clowns.
