OMG, OMG!!! I cant beliave it, i just got a GREEN PLATE CORAL!!!!!!
I've wanted one for sooooo long and the guy at the LFS said that it was an easy to keep hard coral and that it'll do well in my tank. (100G, 3 10000K 54ww T5 lights, 1 actinic 54ww T5 light) My Tank has been running for about 6 weeks and is doing really well, it is already supporting a bunch of mushys, 1 pineapple coral, 2 tubeworms, a bunch O'polyps, snails(which can stop breeding) and thats about it!!! I started acclimating it about an hour ago and it looks very sullen, its pulled all it tentacles in and is not looking very happy, do you guys think it'll be allright???

It should be fine, all my corals go through the same thing, he should be back to his normal look after about a day in the tank.

Just to let you know, I've heard that long tentacle plate corals do not last very long in the home aquarium - hardly more than 6 to 8 months.
I've got one, though, and it's been doing really well after three months, so I guess we'll see.

i have the same coral and when i first got mine he did the same thing. he will come out after a while. from what i have seen it doesnt take much to piss them off and make them suck up like u said.

That is a very young tank. I wouldn't be putting any corals in with it being that young a tank.
I have a Heliofungia actiniformis (long tentacle plate coral) going on for a year and a half so far with no problems. That said, I have a friend that tried them a few times with no success.

Like BLAZE said, they get pissed off pretty easily; every time I top off water, do a water change, or clean the glass, it will puff up; Just make sure it gets plenty of light and the water stays clean

Well Heres my new plate coral,

if i do recall, long tentacles like low current. that is where i have mine. when i change the water motion and make it a lot more in that area, the plate gets pissed off. so maybe you should just try moving the plate. :jumping:

perfect, ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, and i have a little bit of nitrate but nothing to worry about i'm doing a waterchange again tommorrow just to help get some calcium ect into my water and remove whatever nitrates there still are. I started my tank up[ recently so i've had ALOT of differant algaes in my tank, i was hoping that the brown algae was the last but i guess not...

Yeah, it doesn't look too happy right now, and I agree that I would try putting it in a lower current area, but make sure there is enough current to let the tentacles sway in the water. Also, if you have a flat ledge, you could try moving it closer to the lights...that's where I have mine at, about midlevel of the tank.

Its in an area with just enough current to move the tentacles on its one side around a bit. Today it still looks unhappy... Do you guys think it will survive and how long was it before your long tentacled plate coral started to look jolly again? In the LFS it looked nice and big and full water and in my tank it looks, ... well none of those things... I take some pics to show you guys wat i mean.
