Sorry to hear about your lost, but don't give up yet. I will not go into how much money and fish I have lost over time with my tanks doing stuff that I should not be doing but I learn alot and now my tanks are doing real good, you should not give up it will get better. Next time you will know what not to do, good luck in the future.

Sorry to hear about your lost, but don't give up yet. I will not go into how much money and fish I have lost over time with my tanks doing stuff that I should not be doing but I learn alot and now my tanks are doing real good, you should not give up it will get better. Next time you will know what not to do, good luck in the future.

Next time you have any spikes of Ammonia or Nitrite, get AmQuel + and put it in your tank. It will detoxify the ammonia. You will still have ammonia which is what the bacteria feeds on during the cycle, but it will be harmless to the fish.

Sorry but I think that every single poster in this thread thus far has been way off. In all probability, if you followed the appropriate dosage, your fish did not die from the copper treatment.
Personally, I think that your ammonia spike was caused by the piece of lettuce that you had rotting in the tank for 3 days. Assuming that this is consistent with your feeding habits and would routinely leave lettuce in the tank for several days, this is most likely what caused the ammonia.

The copper will be removed over time with a good skimmer, carbon, water changes, and copper absorbing filters
