A racoon got into my boat last winter and ripped the ******** up. I would have had a coon skin cap if I could have caught the varmint.

T, if I had to keep it, I think I'd rather get it stuffed that way it keeps it's head, since that is the cutest part!

...agree, but this was my first attempt at taxidermy. I was afraid to go for too much. Fur turned out nice though

I'm really surprised that you got that close to him though. These jokers will eat you up if they feel threatened.

They get on my back porch every night and eat the bird seed, and then go to the front porch and feed the outside cats food....I use to think it was cute...BUT it can get expensive

Well, it was like this...
I heard him scratching around, so I take a wad of bubble wrap out there, sneak up close and then JUMP on it!!
Silence... I feel stupid now, maybe there never was a critter! Maybe I'm hearing things.
So I go back into the garage to do whatever it was I was doing...
I hear it again and at that point, I kinda figured he was stuck.
So, I shined my flashlight in his eyes to confirm his presence. Then just like any other totally normal family person, I called out the kids to check it out and bring the camera.

Snapped the shots then tipped the can. He was just a little baby.

we had one that size when I was a kid. Very interesting pet. My father found it when it was about 5 weeks old on the side of the road. We bottle fed it and had her for over a yr. Very loving, would steal anything shiny and take it to her bed. When she started to come into heat she got mean, she was taken to a wildlife refuge.

They are so smart. I went camping once and it was one of the rare occasions when my troop brought the entire trailer down. It is a wooden trailer. Well we left food in it thinking, no animal is smart enough to open the metal latch. Well we were right, instead raccoons tore a giant hole in the side of the trailer. That hole was HUGE! We went hungry that week.
Another campout I had to sleep out in the wilderness with nothing at all...can't tell you why though

I walked around until I found a tunnel used for the camp and I crawled in it. I listened to the coyotes and a raccoon decided to crawl in this little tunnel with me.
It stayed there and made noises for like 2 minutes...all the while I held my breath. I could feel it moving the tunnel

Racoons are vicious
We had one that got into the garbage on a regular basis...even backed the cars up against the cans to prevent him from tipping them and spreading trash everywhere. (this went on for months)Anyway, got a cat trap from a neighbor, baited it with a can of sardines, and caught him the first nite! Well, no foresight here...now I have a mean-as-H 35 lb,stinking like fish, racoon in a cage! SO decided to relocate him....put cage and all in the back of my Jeep and drove about 10 miles out into the woods/marsh to let him go. Gagging from the stink all the way! Thank good ness I took along a gaff, thinking I could open the trap with that to set him free. As it turns out, (while him puking most of the way
) he was even madder than before. So I got on the ROOF of the Jeep, took about an hour to undo the latch on the cage and he bolted straight for me, even though I was up on the roof (thankfully up there), hissed, puked some more and took off-even glared back at me a few times. That Jeep stunk for weeks and I left that trap in the woods. Now, fast forward to now, we are dealing with another one. We have tried putting concrete blocks on top of the cans and that critter still knocks them over. My hub said I'm gonna kill it or give it one H of a headache-well 2 bad! He has even eaten a few goldfish in our pond. Sorry I left that trap in the rough!

awwww, that is so stinkin' cute!! (I was getting myself ready to see a pic of a snake
) Especially since he is in YOUR tash can and not mine.
We have sooooo much trouble with a few around here. What a mess they make. Once the weather starts getting nice, we really have to start out smarting them.
In the middle of the night I will hear the can hit the ground, I will turn on the light and open the door. It just looks at me as if to say: "thanks for the light!!!"
I generally have to go out and chase them off.

Yours looks like a baby. Ours are enormous.
