I went to lfs for advice for my zoa. he said dip it in lugols solution. he didn't say for how long. he just said but enough drops in to make it tea colored. then dip it then sake it off in clean salt water. i did just this about 2.5 weeks ago. i didn't let it stay in the solution for very long 5-10 secs. the directions on label didn't mention any dip instructions. my zoa hasn't improved at all!!! what is the best way to use this stuff???

If you have Lugol's....right on the bottle it tells you what to do for use as a dip...it is on the bottom of the label.

thanks. we hope to go home today. ill re-read when i get home. i just remember saying to myself that the instructions didn't say anything about dip but i was in a hurry to get in on there and wasn't too concerned because i was just going to do it the way the lfs guy told me too.

To create a dip for corals and their allies, add 1.50 ml (30 drops) of Lugol's per gallon of purified water in a plastic or glass container, and then immerse coral completely for 10 - 12 minutes.
FYI you can get Povidone-10% at any drug store and save a lot of money. I personally use it for 5 min making the water a weak tea color

I use 40 drops/gallon (well 10drops to a .25 gallons) of Lugols and dip a minimum of 10 minutes. I only dip SPS frags with it but I've inadventently dipped zoa with no problems. dont forget to swirl/dunk the coral around in there periodically.
the purpose is to remove unwanted pest (protozoa and bacterial). It doesn't kill/remove red bugs (which dont host zoanthid) or gastropod eggs (which mean sundial/nudi eggs ect need to be manually removed even with dipping). Iodine also supposedly enables corals to help protect itself from UV/intense lighting (or something to that effect). its suppose to help xenia thrive for some reason as well.
