My Yellow Tang has Lymphocyctes on it. Is this contagious? It's the only tang I have. How do I cure it? The tang is a baby only about 3 inches long. Please help.. I don't want to flush him. :help:

well I actually have some of that, hurray. I hope it works. I guess I'll just play it by ear. My other fish won't get will they? Is there anything I can do to prevent it in the future?

Lymph is not contagious. It is brought about by stress. 9 times out of 10, the water quality is poor. I would fix your potential water quality issue rather than dosing something in the tank.
Can you post your levels? (pH, kH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, salinity, and temp)
How long have you had this fish?

I ordered the fish from my LFS, I live in Tn and he was shipped from GA, so he got this the day after i put him in my tank. I think he was a little stressed out. My water chemistry is good.

NOT. Sorry toi disagree.
The best cure for this is heathy environment, healthy food, and no stress. Its not contagious and should not be treated with medications.

No, as Beth and I said, proper water quality and nutritious diet. No medications.
What are you feeding the fish? Are you using garlic and vitamins?
How did you acclimate him? For how long?

There are some pictures in the Diseased Fish Thread, however, if a picture of this fish can be posted, it would be good....just to be sure we get a positive ID.

My tang looks exactly like the one picture that was posted on the diseases thread. He has fluzzy white stuff on his tail.

Okay, well in order to solve that, we need to know your water paramters (pH, kH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, salinity, and temp) and the diet you have the fish on. Are you using any vitamins in the fish's food?

ok, I tested my water, here are my results: temp:81.2f, Specific grav: 1.022, pH: 8.2, kH: no way of testing it, Ammonia: 0.15ppm, Nitrite: 0ppm, Nitrate: 10ppm. I hope this helps.

Alright, well the biggest thing to keep in mind, is that fish are healthiest when they are given a variety of food loaded with vitamins. It is a good idea to keep the fish on a rotation of 4 to 5 different types of frozen foods, and then dose all of them with garlic and vitamins. Good vitamins include Zoe, Selcon, and VitaChem. Not knowing anything else about your system, I would say the fish has dietary needs that are not truly being met.

Well I've had all my other fish for a long time, my tang I've had for a week today. When I went to pick him up last friday he had that stuff on his tail, I knew I probably shouldn't have bought him but oh well, I really don't think that my tank is what stressed him i think it was where he come from. thanks for all your help. =)

Well if he had it when you got him, then you are right, it's not your tank. If you can keep your levels good and ensure a good, nutritional diet, he will be fine.
