Macro algae in a nano

My LFS suggested adding some macro algae to my nano to help with nitrates (this is a fish only tank).

Where would I put them and what is involved in making that work ?

Most types of macro algae like to hold onto the rockwork. Chaetomorpha is an exception so that one I wouldn't recommend for a display tank. Macro algae will also consume phosphates as a bonus.

You will need to trim it regularly.

To be honest, for a nano tank, changing the water is easier and more effective but macro algae can look very nice and it will have some effect.

If you can add an algae scrubber to your system then that would have the greatest benefit.

I forgot about light. I guess I'd have to hang a light over it.

Is there a rule of thumb for how much macro algae you would need for however many gallons?
