To my favorite not so local LFS and they just got done fragging a bunch of stuff and finally I got a nice green star polyp, a yellow star polyp which I had not seen before, a couple of really nice neon green rhodactis and a small start of xenia. They had a sign up saying they where now doing frags onsite and they have a huge reef tank with lots of stuff growing out of control so hopefully next time I visit they will continue to have stuff in the 15 dollar range
I really like this store for livestock as well as freshwater plants, but the other local store I visited which is also very nice has a much better supply of hardware. I sure do wish I had something close that could compare to either of these stores because the 120 mile round trip makes me think I am addicted to the hobby.

Holy Smokes FT......I guess that I take for granted that I have several LFS's within a 10 min. drive.
I hope you have your own water system, in case an emergeny comes up.

It would be nice to have a close supply for reef stuff, too. It is 90 miles to Tucson for anything I want. But, 180 mile r/t isn't too bad since the folks in Tucson have great stuff at really good prices. I got a 8x6 GSP for $20.

I have about a 180 mile round trip too - Cincinnati to Columbus. All I have around here is a chain store that thinks tangs can go in 20 gals and a LFS run by hilljacks that just like to watch anything eat live foods (snakes eating rats, eels and lions eating fresh water feeders) My girlfriend and I make a trip out of it - I get to go to the sweet fish store and she gets to go to the mall - works for us both

Almost all my freshwater fish have came from Wal-Mart, but I do know when the company that supplies the fish delivers, so they spend very little time in the death tanks. So far my survival rate has been outstanding.
My wife and I made a day of our trip too, we picked up one of our friends and went out to our favorite place to eat lunch.

Walmart!!! I will say though that my local store has okay tanks and one employee is extremely gentle with his netting. I met the guy that delivers fish and they don't come from some Wal-Mart super fish supplier, they are a local company for the state business and he picks up the fish each morning in Portland, from Asia and delivers them the same day. Actually a very nice kid and very knowledable about fish, he also does some commercial accounts. Never really talked to anyone on the commercial side of things before like that and found it kind of interesting. Still though, unless those Walmart fish hit the lottery and get bought by a hobbyist, it is a death sentence.

You make it sound like the old days when families only went to town once a week for household staples
I bet it's up hill both ways too, right?

PM sent Dr. The Tucson reefers are the best. They know I travel a long distance and have always given me a great deal. I get all my fish from SWF.com, but all my coral from the Tucsons guys.

I literally have at least 25-30 stores within driving range of me and if I had to drive as far as some of you I could probably find about 50-60 others
the one I go to is about 1.5 miles round trip from my house never by much livestock form there. If I do I have them special order it. The guy that works there is a diver and harvests the local live rock so I get awesome deals on nice rock while in the store its 6.99 per/pd
I go to his house find the best rocks before they go to the store. I feel lucky

Well I wouldn't either. I'm on 11 acs. in the country, on a lake. But I'm only minutes from numerous lfs's.

right outside Tampa, Fl
So the rock you have is only out of Florida waters? This is why I was asking your location. There are a few decent things that come out of Fl. waters, but not much, especially when it comes to live rock.
