i got some epoxy magnets from gauss boys like i know alot of you guys also did. mine are starting to create rust circles on the glass. it comes off fairly easy but is this ok for my reef? should i get different magnets?

I would seal the magnets to prevent further rusting or get new magnets that are already sealed and will not rust.

do you think i can just put a thin coat of silicon on them? could this cause problems in my tank?

Rust means that it is metal. Heavy metals are disasterous in a reef. Nothing metal should be used in any salt tank, let alone a reef. Please take them out of there ASAP. Pick up plastic suction cups to hold your powerhead.

well is that stuff reef safe? it is a very small amount of rust over a 2 month time period. i think a couple days will not matter. if i order the plastic stuff today it will be here in a few days. i can not use suction cups with maxi jet mods, thats just asking for trouble. and i run 2 bags of chemipure in my 90 g with 30 g sump so i should be ok.

I have all maxijets. What are you talking about here? They come with the rubber suction cups. Rust is a chemical reaction. There is metal in your reef no matter how slowly the rust forms.

i have maxijet mods. i dont trust the suction cups and they wouldnt be nearly as movable and adjustable as they are with the magnets. if the plasti stuff is reef safe then my problem will be solved...so is it? or should i just put a thin layer of silicon on them

A thin layer of silicon should work or another layer of Epoxy.
I have 4 of these setup and I don't see any of them rusting.
