i have been treating my tank for ich i have a 75 gallon tank with live rock, coral, inverts, and fish well after a week of using melafix and it didnt help i caught my fish out and put them in a qt tank. so after i caught my fish out i done a water change and my salt was around 24 so i put 16 gallons of ro water back into my tank with no salt and it lowered my salt down to 18 which was way to low i know i took out 3 gallons and mixed salt in it and put it back in. and it brought my salt back up to 21 and my corals are all closed up and look awful here are some pics of my leathers and pearl coral and xenia and they are closed up and my big leather looks like it is just disappearing it looks bad real bad. so any advice would be greatly appreciated i'm really and frustrated on what to do i have ALOT of money in this hobby and its driving me crazy thanks oh yeah and about half my mushrooms look like they are melting. the last picture is of my mushrooms

well i dropped the salinity in one afternoon and that afternoon i went to a lfs and bout the big leather you see in the 1st picture and i done the lowering before i got it well i realized the next day that it was too low so i add the salt back that day over about an hour time frame and i used melafix b/c somebody on here told me they used it and that it was reef safe and it worked for them which was obviously a lie or if it did work it was 1 in a million

Well hopefully someone who knows more will chime in...I have never heard of using melafix for ich....as a matter of fact I thought melafix was bad to use cause of oxygen issues.....not sure though
I am also wondering if you shocked the corals with the rapid changes in salinity, and also if the melafix may have harmed them..
HOPEFULLY hope will come...cause like I said I am not sure here

Maybe you need to do a VERY large water change
Are you running carbon? You need to get the chemical out of the water.....hopefully you can still save your other stuff

There could have been bacteria on them and if kept dry, it will most likely wash back into the tank with any die-off that occurred.

You might as well wait and put new carbon pads in....and get the water ready for a large water change too

Sorry to hear about what happened....I have no clue why you would have done any of that, and unfortunately with salinity shock like that I am not really sure what can be done....What are you measuring your water with??? I would get a full set of params. Also I would be mixing 20g of salt water ASAP and do a water change as soon as it is mixed. I would also get some Carbon running in the tank quickly...If you don't have a refractometer you really need to get one ASAP as well

What is your salinity now? I always keep mine at .024 I would slowly bring the salt back up. I never put meds. in my tanks. I have cleaner shrimp that clean my fish if they get ick. Do you still have any fish in QT? Make sure you put Vitamin C and garlic in with there food, it helps keep them healthy and builts there imune system. JMO As for your coral ithink we will just have to hope for the best and hope all works out well. Also again JMO Catching fish and putting them in a QT just puts more stress on the fish. I would just leave the fish in the tank and make sure they are getting enough to eat and vitamin c and they will fight it off themselves. Keep us posted hope all works out well.
