So its normal for a new Mantis to just kinda hang out in her cave? She is alive and alert. Constantly watching but she just hangs back inside.

Yup, she's gotta get use to the environment. Sometimes it takes a bit until they are totally comfortable and start coming out as you approach the tank versus hiding when you approach it.

Ok.
Here some new pics.
She officially hates hermits. Wont em them but if one gets in her tunnel, she gives it a warning smack and tosses it out.

And thank you for all your encourage and help. Would have been alot harder without you.
YW. The next person who comes on here and asks about mantis', you'll be able to share your
experiences. Some of them I'm sure will even be different from my own :)

Haha YAY is right, rlablan.
Im already sharing my experience on other forms and helping out new Mantis owners. This is the best thing that has come out of this hobby for me so far.

Yup. Everything is going swimmingly.
She ate krill first day she arrived and yesterday. I guess last night when I was asleep, two 2'' large Hermits got eaten. All I found was a she turned upside down. She is starting to rearrange the rocks around her tunnel and looks out when Im not in the room.
I couldnt be happier.

Thank you

They are so interesting and fun to watch. Make sure you take lots of pics. Make a thread if you can. I wish I did. Was a long and hard project.

Cranberry, is it normal for my Mantis to sometimes hang her raptor appendages down? She wasnt hitting anything before, they are just hangin down like she just got out of a bar fight.
Also figured out why she was bending and putting her face towards the sand. She was scratching her backside. No joke Haha
Did my first water change after putting her in. Made me nervous as all get out because I understand Peacock's are super sensative to salinity flucuations.
Also need to ask why my refugium is springing to live with coraline algae. I do scrapings every once and a while but only a few spots in the DT are getting covered. I understand it takes time but I dont understand why it is flourishing in my refugium and not DT.

What light do you have over the fuge and what do you have over the DT?
You mean she doesn't have her pummels drawn in tight.... like they are kind of relaxed?

In the fuge its a 64w spiral bulb with a clip on light about 6'' from the water and in the DT I have a 24'' 4 bulb 2 actenic 2 white. I usually only run one 2 bulbs.
Most of the time they are tucked in tight but sometimes they are relaxed and hanging down. She uses them and I have witnessed her using them. There is cracked shells layin around that are pretty messed up.
Is this a bad sign? God I hope not.

Naw, sometimes mine lets them hang.
I would guess it's the light difference that is causing the.... differences. :)
