mantise shrimp

would a smasher-type mantise shrimp be O.K. with fish and my fist full of hermit crabs?
most of the hermits would be smaller than a dime in size and I don't think a larger mantise would bother them
also plan to keep:
1x false perc. clown
1x flame angel
1x flameback angel
1x trible blenny
+corals

Not an expert, but I believe you would eventually just have a Mantis!

All seriousness, there are plenty of people who have successfully maintained mantises. I would recommend doing a google search on them and reading around. I was going to copy and paste a bunch of stuff but not sure it would of helped ya.

i wouldnt put my hand in my mantis tank let alone fish,if i throw in a snail it takes her about 3 seconds to grab it and start smashing it.

at about 3.30 into the video it shows a green chromis swimming around (and thats my point)
It also said in the coral that smasher type mantise is ok

poor hermit!!!! i watched the video and know my mind is made up....i dont want a mantis shrimp!!!! lol it was hilarious when the hemit gave him the finger!
I would think if ur tank was big enough, this would be possiable but it is better safe than sry! Better get a species only tank for this animal!

seems to me you are trying to find anyway to talk yourself into this .send me a trigger and i will put him in my tank and put the video on it.these mantis arent afraid of anything.
if i go to the side on the tank and tap the glass she flies right over .if i put a stick in the tank she gets right on it and starts pounding it.

so what kind of mantis do you have
I was thinking along the lines of purple-spoted, common, or green mantis
I have read that these don't get much bigger than 3in and pose little threat to fish and larger inverts
(of these 3 I would personaly like a common mantis, mostly because of the yellow coloration)

mine is a 6 or 7 inch peacock.i dont know much about the ones you listed.i do know they are very aggressive towards anything.they sure arent shy.why do you insist on critter with him?just get a 20 gallon and keep him by himself.they are plenty entertaining all by themselves.

What you've "heard" is incorrect...a clubber can and will take down fish. In fact, you ought to see one hunt a fish (Stomatopods are pretty smart). I've seen 1" clubbers kill fish.
If you keep a spearer such as Pseudosquilla ciliata
(which are typically bright yellow or green), sometimes you can keep hermits with them, as spearers are piscivores in the wild.

how many of you have a subscription to coral
We do, but that's neither here nor there...a clubber can, and will kill fish. At one point, we kept four (4) Stomatopods (3 clubbers and a spearer), and the clubbers happily ate fish if they were added to the tanks.
