I got a 10in Mappa Puffer last fri. So far he hides in the corner all day and comes out at night when all the lights are off. So far he has not eaten.
Has any one had one of these puffers before. I know they are very rare but worth a shot.

-How large of a tank do you have?
-What are the inhabitants in the tank with him?
-Did you QT this fish before putting him in the display?
-Was he eating at the LFS?

I have a 250 gallon.
I brought him home from the fish store. Let him calm down for a while in the box. Changed out the water slowly until it was 100% tank water.
Then put him in the big tank.
I saw him eat while I was at the fish store no probelm.
I have to put a list togther of my fish.

Sad to Reprot the Mappa Puffer died last night. That was a $500 fish that only lasted 3 days. I am a little pissed to say the leaset. My levels are perfect and I have 18 other fish that say the living in that tank is very good.
I am off to get a 10 in Hawaiian Golden Puffer today to replace that one. The owner is working out a deal with me, but I am still not very happy. Just better then nothing I guess.

Mappa puffers are very very strange they take along time to get used to there surrondings and it may seem like the puffer had problems by being fed live goldfish and 500$ damn thats alot there is one by me for eighty bucks glad I dont live by you that is way to expensive for one of them even online they are cheaper than that. sorry to hear about your loss to.

Please show me online where they are cheap like the $80 you are talking about for a 10in show size.
There are sites that have them for up to $750. Please show me where they are for $80.

Sorry but this site does not sell Mappa Puffer.
I was not trying to tell any one to buy from other sites. I just want to show that they do not sell online for cheap ($80).
I would buy them up in a heartbeat for that much.

I had one a while ago and the store wanted to buy it back so I said ok. But mine was in a tank with alot less fish. I put him in a QT tank for a week after 8 hours of drip and temp changes the first day. The LFS never fed it Gold fish and I also did not feed it gold fish. I used ghost shrimp to get him to eat and when I put him in the tank I did so at lights out and he woke up with friends. He did find a big rock to hide behind for a few days but live shrimp made him come out and he became king of the tank.

STOP. You need to pick one puffer for the tank. I do not see this going well with that many fish.

I have had all of the following for over 2 years and no probelms ever with any of them to each other. So why would a mapa or golder be any different. I know there are certain rules of thumb on what to had and not have together. But if all my fish get along and never fight why would not get more. Not to say at some point it would have to stop. But in a few months my new 1000 gallon will be ready and my 19 fish will seem like I have 3 in that big tank. So just getting them all ready now for the big one. If I see a nice fish I have to buy it. But if I did see harm to one fish from another I would pull him out right away. My friend has a 600 so we can switch fish with each other if need be.

Just as a side note, feeding any saltwater animal a live freshwater fish is NEVER a good thing. Long term,it will cause the fish to die due to fatty liver disease.

I agree with you 100%. I never feed my fish live food. The guy at the fish store did it before I could stop him.

I cant post links but il give you a clue its marine something dot com and a med one is 249.00 a show one is five hundred and the the pet store thats about an hour still has that guy for 85 bucks as my friend just told me if you need the actually link email me. but i hear they are damn hard to take care since they take so long to get used to a tank but thats my 2 cents.

So if a show is $500 from marine something and i paid $500 for a show size then that sounds right. You said they were much cheaper online.
