IMO
funky old reef mud = useless/snake oil
coral vital ok for use when adding stressed/fragged coral to help recovery. not used as per label.
Combo Vital (mixture of spectra vital and black powder) = great for sustaining thriving poulations of pods and shrimp, dont know why but they love to eat it. also used far less than per labled instructions.
mostly I think the products are OK but definatly not for everyone. its hard to judge when to use or not use for a begginer who only knows what is on the label, they can lead to excess pollution that is impossible to test for. after one solid year of using the products as reccomended and watching the algae thrive off all the extra crap in the water, my new regiment of useing only when needed does not promote pollution and is a decent addition to my feeding when applied properly. but improper use can be detrimental. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
Thanks for everyones input it is much appreciated.

I've been looking at Black Powder, but but am scared off from this advice. I guess it'd take a blind study on two "identical" tanks, but curious if anyone had felt they got results from this product...

So after my previous posts i decided to experiment with mushrooms (that sounds off) Anyway, I took four mushrooms out of one tank and put them in another and started using Coral Vital in only one tank with them...They exploded.. Seriously..I pour the stuff in and within ten minutes, they go from golf ball to softball..It is the only thing that I do different to the tanks..Water params are close enough, I beleive its the Coral Vital..They do however seem to shrink back up after a few hours..The LFS here said "If its good enough for the Aguarium of Americas"

if you want your corals to look nicer and bigger do weekly or bi-weekly water changes and feeds oyster eggs and dt's. enough said. Anything from Marc Weiss is a scam.

Do you think that's a good thing or do you think the Mushrooms are reacting to an irritant (like perhaps excess sugar).

a store in GA sold my girlfriend on fiji gold...i was against it because in my eyes it was just dirt but she begged and begged and just had to have it....put in the tank 3 times since we got it....she was disappointed after being told it would make eveything in the tank go crazy

I use the combo vital once or twice a week just to add some variety and my inverts go NUTS!!
The shrimp and crabs just go crazy, almost jumping out of the tank when I add it in. I think my corals like it as well, but I cant tell.

lol, mine do the same when I add formula II. I agree with Bang that his products are dishonest.

I have been using the coral vital for a while now with good results. I usually use it when adding new coral or when fragging corals to reduce stress. My coral recovers faster after being fragged. I don't believe it does all it says on the website but I do believe it is helpful for what I have been using it for.
