Nissan Told me to do this and I have been doing it weekly, with the addition of PurpleUp, and taking weekly pictures which I will post to either validate or dismiss this theory.
BTW, nice tank Matt, keep up the good work and really take your time!!!

Oh, it does work.
I scratch up the coralline in my tank about once every two weeks. In my nano I do it a few times a week.
What I question is how much it helps with "seeding" live rock to contain beneficial bacteria. I don't think coralline really does all that much.

Yes, just be careful with which type you buy. Tigger Pods are the most commonly available and they don't live in warmer waters for that long. They're really only good for target feeding, not seeding the tank.
I know that cured LR costs a lot more, but the benefits of it are just too much for me to not use it. Besides, I'm lazy and don't want to cure rock, LOL. I also QT my rock to look out for the nasty critters and I've gotten my fair share of them (baby mantis, pistol shrimp, xanthid crabs, gorilla crabs, etc)

My LFS is very informative and has nice people that don't just want to sell you stuff. They have other pods, not just trigger pods.
I don't have a fuge yet Nissan, the small tuberware container is a mantis tank, I just haven't bought an actual tank for it yet.

coraline to me has nothing to make the tank cycle faster or anything like that. coraline is just showing you have great calcium in your tank. just by brushing it the coraline will spread.
now seeding your tank IMO is like giving your good benificial(sp?) the bacterial from the cured LR will slowly start to spread to the new rock to help with the cycle

Yes. I would like the coraline to cover the back wall. I think it shows a healthy tank. As for the bacteria, I just want it to find a home all over my rock.

you can make that a refugium

I need room for my HUGE skimmer though!
But no biggy, I'll just go buy a 10 gallon or something like that. Probably 2 10 gallons. (One for fuge and one for Mantis)

I think mantis shrimp are amazing creatures. They're so interesting and have amazing personalities. And I like my big sump. I think the ten will be enough. What light do you recommend?
