Membrane change ???

Just changed filters on my ro/di and I realized I should have changed the membrane too....SOOO I ordered one...it should arrive tomorrow
my question is.....when changing the membrane...do I have to run a certain amount of water thru the filters before I actually use any of it?
I really can not remember

We just check the TDS and if it looks good, we go with that.

I run about 5G through, check the TDS and go from there.

I run 5 to 10 gallons of water through the membrane and then check the TDS, as already stated.

I think most sources recommend discarding the first 10 gallons of water through a new membrane.

I HAVE A QUESTION.....WHY when you change the membrane the TDS goes up? so you are saying after 5-10 gallons it will go back down???

Yes, TDS climbs really high with a new membrane and it has to be flushed out. After 10g, the TDS will usually read zero.

If you have any filters downstream of the RO then bypass them. ESPECIALLY if you have a DI.
The membrane is stored with a protective gel that takes 5 - 10 gallons of product water to clear. You do not want that gel going through your DI.

YIKES....I didn't know that and it didn't say it in the instructions.....will this be bad.....I just changed all my other filters last week

It's not too dificult to bypass everything after tha RO for a few hours. Do you need some help with it? Just have the output of the RO go directly into a bucket instead of into the next filter.

I have already ran the 10gallons out until the TDS went back to 0
