I actually had a glass lid crack under a metal halide.....
I definitely do not recommend a closed lid system

I am already running sump which is covered with a scrubber so there is already alot of evap from that...
another point that was brought up... i am constaly battling salt creep... will that stop if i go topless?

atleast you wont have to clean the lid like every time you see your tank ..... i dont think there is anything better than taking off your lid... i mean if it were a jumping problem then you could get some egg crate but that doesnt stop the evaporation problem

The salt creep is the end result of you trying to contain the humidity. The water evaporates but your left with the salt.
