Might buy a seahorse...

Ugh, my mom refuses to go pick up the horse today because of the weather,
And they are closed on Mondays so i have to wait until Tuesday now...

Sorry, I didnt see your post I wasnt on yesterday
My reasoning behind waiting is also to make SURE there are NO spike in levels and what not. I had a major spike tand it was NOT good (I did use water rock & LS from my 75g that has been running for 6years) and the fact that there were few pods did not help.
Myself, I would wait (as hard as it is) at least 4weeks...adding LOTS of pods in the meantime.
May I ask what store in Rochester you use??? I was actually out at Caribbean Forest, I really liked it....I picked up a beautiful Tigertail female and a few other things!!

Well my favorite store is the reef shoppe, but thats mostly for corals, Caribbean forest is a nice place too but I'm not a big fan of the people there. (BTW the reef shoppe is literally right down the road from Caribbean forest) These two places are like 40 mins from my house and since i can't drive it's hard to get there often. There is one place in Spencerport like 15 minutes from me called marine oasis, they have nice fish but their corals aren't great. (mostly brown zoos and shrooms) This is where I'm getting the SH. they get horses in periodically at MO and CF.
I did not know you could get "delayed spikes" after/during a cycle, how long was it after you thought the cycle finished that this happened to you? Do you have any idea what could have caused it? I will definitely go back and do some reading on the cycle.
Oh, plzz post pics of the horse you got at CF, can't wait to see her!!!!!

my spike was about 2 weeks after I set the hex up again (I have an 11 month old) so my memory has been mush since.......AND I used MarineCare Plus by Tropical Science (great stuff) to ensure water quality and I had a MAJOR spike and I dont have a clue why. like I said my big tank has been running 5 years+ and the only thing I added was a lil extra CC from a take I tore down (rinsed VERY well b4 putting in tank) This spike was b4 I added horses thank goodness but it did claim a pair of purple firefish I got for $15 (for both
)
So I let the tank run a few more weeks, testing the levels daily before I added horses but even then there was a spike once I added livestock which is why I think I lost the male.....the female I lost this fall when the outside temps fell quickly and I did not have my heater plugged in (I live on the 2nd fl)so it was quite warm.....it was sad

So that is why I cautioned you, I do not want u or a SH to go thru that, it is no fun.
I will post pics of the tiger tail she is SO sweet! The other lil pinkish one had passed when I got home from work this evening. I was concerned with her from the beginning, she didnt act right after acclimating.

I will post pics on Wed as I am off all day

Hey maybe next time I come ur way, u can be my tour guide and show me around

First of all, I DIDN'T HAVE SCHOOL TODAY!!!!!!!!
(cuz it was soooo cold)
When you say,"the only thing I added was a lil extra CC from a take I tore down (rinsed VERY well b4 putting in tank)" Do you mean tore down along time ago or very recently? If the CC was still live and you rinsed it you might have killed the "stuff" in it add provoked a spike. (just a thought)
Sorry about the 'lil horse.

Yeah it was from a tank we tore down a LONG time before so anything alive was dead long ago
Thanks for the thoughts for the lil lost horse

Picked her up today,(luckily before the storm hit) and it could be kuda, erectus, or maybe even tigertail(pics tomorrow) Acclimation went well and at the store she came right up to the tank to see me and seems very healthy. Also got a Halimeda Plant for her to hitch to. I'm guessing its a girl. i hope to get her a friend as soon as possible

google and photobucket are being stupid tho

if you get pods, add a few drops of phytoplankton. i forgot to mention that. they eat phytoplankton naturally and that usually helps them grow and breed better if they get lots of phytoplankton to eat on. i usually add phytoplankton to my seahorse tank now and then, but not too often seeing as tho it's a huge tank ><

Well managed to get a couple pics in which she actually looks like a SH. The light on te tank is horrible, my camera is horrible, and i'm no photographer.
Shee is doing great!!!!!!!!!
She scans the bottom constantly for food, (she seems to prefer eating off the bottom) and whenever i approach the tank she comes out and swims. She loves havin her pic taken. I'm gonna say it's a female kuda, what do you think? Next order of business, get a background and a friend for her once she settles.(clown goby and/or another horse)
She is honestly the most beautiful, fun to watch creature ever.

I couldn't begin to tell you the species, but I do know the pouches on the males do not develope until they are older, I think mine were about 5 inches tall when they got theirs and those were H.Kellogi's.

Photo 2 makes me think you have a little male.
Nice and healthy looking, either way!
Species is such a tough one. Kuda's are not usually striped, are they?

Could be a h. fuscus with the markings. They really aren't stripes but marbling...more spots than stripes?
