MIXING clowns

Depends on the size of the tank and the species of clown. If you have a decent sized tank and don't overdue it with tons of clowns then you should be fine. I would stick to a pair per 20 or 30 gallons or so of the same species. So if you want two different species i would aim for larger than 30 gallons, and if you want two pairs (4 total) then i would aim for maybe 50+.

I have a Maroon Clown thats about 2 inches long and a saddle back Clown that is 2 inches long in a 75 gallon and they are loving it! they get along pretty well and they even swim with each other from time to time. the only time I hvae a problem is when the maroon goes near the saddlebacks anemone, the saddle back chasses the maroon away.

I've seen tanks with mated mixed pairs. A local advanced hobbiest had a pair of Saddlebacks and a pair of Ocellaris in a 220 for about 6 years before the Saddlebacks caught the Ocellaris and fed them to a Carpet Anemone.
As a guess I would say it works out 1 in 10 times. You hear a lot about the successes but few people admit to the failures.
The public reef tank I help maintain has a pair of Fire Clowns and a Percula/Ocellaris mixed pair. They've been fine in their 550 gallon tank for the past 6 years.
I definately recommend against it because the odds are not in your favor.

This is a good situation b/c you have two clowns of comparable size in a big enough tank. Sounds like they each have hosts as well, so the won't stray too much.
I think the problem from this usually stems from people mixing clowns of uneven sizes or temperaments. Poor like percs/ocels are going to get beat up by almost anything, as they are a smaller and more docile species.

i had a pair of tomatos and a pair of clarkii all in a 55 once..but just today i had to take out my single tomato that i have had for a year, was harassing my new pair of percs to death...so the tomato is gone. i would say its not good to do :) stay with a single type of clown.
