Mixing Substrates

My tank has been running for about 6 months now with a gravel and crushed coral substrate. I was curious as to whether or not it would be possible to mix a medium grained sand with the gravel and if so, how should it be done?

IMO it would be worthless.....the finer pieces will sift its way to the bottom, leaving your courser substrate on the top

You shouldn't have gravel in a SW tank anyway...I say switch to sand 100% the critters will love you for it.

If I were to switch substrates should I use live sand or would that cause an ammonia spike?
