I have a 150 gallon tank with 3 yellow tangs, 1 blue hippo tang, and a sohol tang. There will always be a certain level of stess when new tank mates are added, just try to make to intro as calm as possible, after a feeding or just before lights out or even after a water change. ( not calm situtations I know but they are distractions to the tank)
I plan on adding a purple tang and maybe even a blonde naso in the future i have not decided as of yet, but in a 90 you should be ok

to be honest with you, i'm not part of the tang police but i would only keep one tang in a 90 and that is kindof pushing it, when it comes to the tangs as full grown adults. go for something like an angel instead or a butterfly.

I have a hippo and a purple in a 100 gal. I have had no problems with them at all.

from all the advice i have received of keeping multiple tangs, as long as their body shapes are different, then you should be alright, i.e. blue hippo and a yellow tang. keeping large tangs in a 90 isn't a good idea, but younger tangs is cool, as long as you give them a larger home as they grow.

A 90 is too small for a Hippo. You could trade it for a Yellow or a Purple but adding another Tang will probably not work long term.

I am not trying to hijack the post but I have a related question. Many people say that certain tanks are not suitable for certain fish because of lack of swimming room. I myself have a 90 FOWLR. The way mine is set up allows for about the same swimming room as a 200 gal reef (most I have seen are packed with LR). I keep a fair amount of live rock in there but not as much as most people recommend...only about 45 lbs. That said, there is plenty of swimming room in my tank so shouldn't I be able to keep a fish like a Hippo?

Not if it is a standard 4' tank, IMO. They are still fast swimmers, and that means some room for burst swimming and not having to constantly turn. JMO.

Yellow tang was a good choice just becuase of how hardy they are. I would not have suggested a butterfly fish though. They are more for the community fish, they wouldn't be able to defend themselves if the hippo decided to turn on them.

i also bumped rock up to about 130 or 140 lbs from the 90 lbs pictured so i will update pics soon. they absolutely love it more room for everyone to hide now they come out from everywhere in the tank besides one entrance and exit. lol

I have a 90g reef also and I had a yellow tang and a purple tang in at the same time with no problems at all. It all depends on the fish I guess, becuase these fish were the same shape.
