I've spent about 3k on my far from complete 72 gallon bow front. I hope my wife doesn't see this. If she does, this might be my last post. :help:

I have about $1200 in my 24 gal and only like $125 in my 20 long (thats the dogs tank on the floor, keeps them busy)
225 - Tank
300 - 150w MH fixture
20 - sand
150 - live rock
50 - test kits
30 - food (my dogs have eaten two cans of fish food already, plus live brine shrimp)
50 - supplements, additives
40 - fish
200 - corals
50 - water
30 - filter pad
50 - various neccesities (digital therm, hydrometer, algae scraper, magfloat, etc...)
Yeah, right around $1200, give or take a little. This is even with discounts and stuff because I'm good friends with my LFS (helps to kinda date the owner)

I have a RR 92 gal. bow front and a 125 gal. Both salt and a 65 gal hex tank freash water.A pretty good lish of fish and corals.About 350 pounds of live rock.It is a vary costly hobby. For some a way of life.
But if you build a lot of stuff yourself and look for the sweet deals. You can keep costs down.Although you are never ever done spending money on this hobby. In all my tanks I have about 4500.00 in them.

The thing to consider when adding up costs is that, its the little things that count. Factor in $70 for one HQI bulb as an example and things can add up real quick. Once you overcome the fact that this is by its nature a VERY expensive hobby (and that you can save a lot of $ researching things instead of just believing the LFS and getting things from them) in the long run you can have a very nice system that you feel comfortable about the cost.

Let me put it to you this way....
I have several tanks and when I go the LFS he knows either add it up when my husband is looking at other pets or charge it to my account (yes, I have an account with the store) and I'll pay for everything when my husband is not with me.
I make significantly more than my husband does, so if I'm sneaking as much as I have since I got into this hobby even I don't want to know the grand total!!
I will get deals from my LFS and he has already told me, I am his BEST customer. That's not a title I want to hold because it means I'm spending far too much!

Ditto. Across all my tanks I've spent at least this much... I wish I hadn't read this thread... made me think about it.

I think what's really funny is how everyone has a price they tell people and then there's the real price that we don't look at. I stopped counting at $1000 and that was over a year ago and now I have 2 more tanks. It's a lot of money but I would just blow it on something else anyways so at least I have a little bit of ocean to stare at.

Actually, I am a compulsive saving freak of nature and love saving money. This hobby actually made me spend money - over, and over, and over again.
When I first got into this hobby, I knew it was an expensive one and knew I could afford it. I just don't care to know what I have REALLY spent in total for all the tanks - and I especially don't want my husband to know what the bottom line is now when I suffer from the 'just one more tank' syndrome.
If he knew even half of what I know about the kind of money in our tanks, he would be bitching about getting a third Corvette since our daughter can now legally drive.
I would be very stupid if I allowed our 14 year old daughter to get behind the wheel of a Corvette to 'learn how to drive.'

No way! With two of us suffering from "multiple toy syndrome" we would definitely be in the poorhouse.
Besides, I don't want my daughter asking to borrow our Vettes or telling me she should be able to borrow one because we have an extra one sitting in the garage.

I've lost count but wish I knew...I think I just might start saving receipts in a folder or something.
75g DT FOWLR w/ 55g sump and a 20H QT
I think I'm near or just over $3K
As soon as I move back down south I plan on building a 260g system and estimate equipment and livestock at $15K, ouch!
