she has a face only a mother could love.i had to barricade the little ones in the makeshift stall i made for the winter storm we had.the mama donk was trying to stomp one of the little ones.didnt hurt it but not good.she will get used to them soon enough.she did the same thing when we added the goats for a couple days.
jeez hard enough to care for the animals we have couldn't imagine having kids?

Baby goats are my favorite babies. Their little lips and hooves are just the best. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, her mouth looks hideous. We had a trio that I had to rehome when we moved to MA, Snickers, Snow, and Buddy. Snickers would scarf her food so fast that she would choke. Have you ever tried the heimlich maneuver on a goat? Not cool. We miss them so.

not a chance.already had a call from our ass. cheif at the firehall to take them.we went out to dinner and came back with a couple bales of hay.the little ones are up and about pretty good now.amazing how fast in the first day these goats and donkeys go from standing ,wobbeling around to running the next day.these two are just too cool.you can pick then up just like a puppy.but boy do they have a yell.not like a scream of scared but happy already.they already come walking up to us .just amazing it takes us 18 months to do what they do in hours.

Not sure if this is relevant but try doing a search on Selenium Deficiency (aka White Muscle Disease) in baby goats. Apparently alot of them die baby goats and sheep die from this if the mother is not recieving selenium supplimentation in their diet durring the last month of pregnancy. They kids will live and look healthy for a short time and then pass sometimes in just a few days.

Just currious...I didn't know if that had anything to do with it or not. WMD seemed to be a pretty big issue for goats and sheep from the short bit of research I did earlier. Still sucks though and sorry for the loss, man. Agree with Meowzer, I would wait and tell the wife after the vacation.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Was this the mom's first delivery? A friend raises goats in New Jersey. Her goats will be in an upcoming Smurf movie actually. Anyhow, the Nubian doe just delivered two beautiful babies, healthy and all seemed well. They went out to the barn over the weekend and mom was laying down, but no babies in sight. Mom got up and the babies were dead under her.
They assumed that her laying on them killed them but did have a necropsy done to be safe as they have dozens of goats. The official cause of death was suffocation.
I guess this is pretty common in new moms but none the less heartbreaking. Whether they are trying to protect them or are just not aware of where they lie, alot of it is just being a nervous new mom. My friend suspects that her doe was trying to protect them, as there had been a stray dog roaming around their area that they had run off a few times. She thinks mama was nervous and trying to keep them out of harms way.
Not ruling out the selenium deficiency but most commercial feeds contain selenium due to the fact that most farm animals aren't free range and find it naturally.
