More feather duster issues.

Now I may have done it. Ugh. I just feel awful. I posted a few days ago about how one of my feather dusters lost his crown. Well, I came to find out that the poor thing wasn't getting enough to eat and that I should start putting phytoplankton in my tank. Ok, fine. I also posted the question as to how I could tell if the thing was still alive and someone said to lightly squeeze his tube and if he jumps he is still alive. Well, I did that today and felt no jump, so I assumed he was dead. I pulled at the tube to take it out, but the tube felt like it was stuck on something. Stupid me tugged harder and pulled it out. Upon investigation, I realized I had taken the tube out and left the worm behind...alive with no tube!!!! I put the tube back in not knowing if he would find his way back in. What is going to happen to him now? Will he crawl back in his old tube? Create a new one? Die...? Ugh.

Yikes, he won't live. Once a duster dies it will eventually detach from the rock itself, so if you pull and it doesn't come easily, leave it alone. Better safe than sorry..

I was afraid of that. No chance it will get back in its tube, huh? Whata bummer. Now I have to find it again to get it out of there.

As Bang stated if left alone and not picked off by any other inhabitants of your tank they should build a new tube.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I read that sometimes they will throw their crown, abandone thier tube and start over simply because they don't like the location they are in.

I have read that too, somewhere. But the key thing is, if he is left alone. If you have hermits or other crabs in your tank chances are not good for the little guy.

I had hair alge growing, I was pulling it out and ripped part of the tube with it, 1.5 of the tube came off in my hand! I left it alone and it regrew the tube, Also the duster looks better then it ever did! Sometime adversitiy makes them stronger!?
