It looks sooo very ridiculous being so big..any ideas? suggestions??
thanks Staci
here is a link to a video on fragging a ball sponge. the same tecnique can be used on a tree sponge. attaching is the tricky part. using superglue under water is somethign I have yet to perfect. wedging seems the best way to get these to attach.

I've searched this thread but might have missed it.
Any pictures of attaching the rock with frag onto a rock inside your tank using rectorseal and/or superglue gel?

there arent. sorry. this afternoon I am going to do some fragging. i'll do some shots on using superglue under water (i'm out of rector seal, and broke)
the rector seal you just mix well then press into the ridges in the rock. this stuff doesnt really stick so its easiest to use on rough rock rather than smoother ones.

suncorals are fairly simple. skinny chisel and a hammer.place it down between the polyps the the base of the coral and strike the chisel with the hammer. you can also use a rotozip tool or a dremel to cut the base skeleton.then you can clue the skeleton of the polyp or polyps to a rock

how deep do the polyps go? is there a chance i'd hurt the body of the coral by doing this? my skeletons are probably about 1/2-3/4" long, and then the polyps extend out by another 1/2 or more but during the day they are in about 1/4".

they can suck in almost all the way to the base but as long as you break it off as close to the base as possible there is little chance of hurting it. when you glue it try to seal the bottom with glue to prevent bacterial infections in the flesh that is not used to being exposed to open water.

I wanted to stock my tank pretty soon with some corals, and wondered if you had any ideas. I really like the closed brain coral and wanted some other neon colors to go with it. Thanks for any help.
Sorry I have a 55 gallon tank with 327 watts coralife lights 50/50 lighting. Peaceful tank, don't want anything that will eat my little guys. Percula clowfish, 6 line wrasse, Randals Goby, Michaels Pistol shrimp, Fire shrimp, Derasa thick striped clam. Soon to be Psychadellic Mandairin or spotted dragonette, (can't decide,) Monday I get a purple firefish or maybe a pair of Bangaii Cardinals. My LFS is looking for people to breed cause they are no longer buying wild caught.
Again thanks for any help, I am so incredibely addictled to salt water. Ihave had a 46 gallon freshwater for ever, wish i had gotten into saltwater sooner.

I'm soon planning on fragging my green haired mushrooms and it'll be my first time. After i make the cut what do i do? wash off the shroom in the aquarium or just wash it off in fresh water?

after you make the cut there isnt much point in trying to rinse the shroom its going to slime up something fierce, just place the cutting in a shallow dish with some sand in a low flow area of your tank to allow it to heal and attach to the sand, once it does that you can glue it. if you have to, use a rubber band and some bridal mesh over the mouth of the container to keep the piece in.

Reefkpr, thanks SOOOO much for this thread. I just tried my first frag tonight, a green-striped shroom. It's in my little plastic container on the side of the tank. Hopefully it works out, never would I have thought I could do that. You're awesome!!!!

Well if were going to make it to page 10 I guess im gonna have 2 dig this thread up and post some new pictures!
Well for Xmas I got a coral fragging kit so i've started experimenting with some stray mushrooms that detached from their colony, I cut them in half and now im going to wait till they regenerate and then glue them to a new rock and start a new colony.

On Another Note I want to frag my 6 Inch devil Hand, what tool should I use to cut it and where? Should I just lop off a finger from the palm in the backside?

So how long will it take for that piece to attach itself and grow into something resembling the original? Also when you rubber band it down, does it have to be cut side facing the rock, or does it not matter? Thanks in advance.

attachment usually happens in 4-7 days complete heal to looking like a mini of the original can take about a month.
as for the cut I try and leave it exposed to the flow instead of smothered against the rock but havent ever noticed andy detrimental effects from placing the cut against the rock.
