I just told my husband when he called me from work that we are gonna plan out the chicken house and have it done around February BAHAHAHAHA

We have a racoon problem as well, but no snakes - I made my main coop racoon, fox and coyote proof. I will send you some pictures. Chickens are really a lot of fun to watch and their eggs are the best fresh.

Hey meowzer here are some pictures of a nursery coop I am building on the barn, it is for the little one's before they go with the main flock. Inside the barn is a box to keep them safe and warm at night. Eventually I might use this use for some fancy cornish fowl.

Wow, nice Al!
I had chicks before when I was living in Korea. (long long time ago, mind you)
They grew up nicely and one day my grandmother made some chicken soup for the whole family for family gathering...
they told me they gave it away because it was getting too big and was unhappy.. i connected the dots later and was very upset.

I missed this thread. I raised Buff Orps in 4-H as a kid. At that time they were really hard to get and I was on a waiting list with Murray McMurray for two seasons before I got mine. They are really gentle chickens. I won a lot of ribbons!
Looking forward to more pictures.

They are hard to find up here as well - I guy 5 miles from me raises them - saw it on kijiji so I got 4 of them. They are really gentle.

Meowzer if you want to make it snake proof you could always use acrylic instead of wire. Just one of my regular far fetched ideas.
