I think you can keep as much female as you can w/ just one male.
Also i think you need 100lbs of LR for each mandarin or scooter blennie

I have 2 scooter blennies, a green mandarin and psychedelic manderin all in the same tank and they all do fine together. The blennies will sometimes chase each other and show off but never hurt each other. The manderines pretty much keep to themselves.

My .02 if you are having success with your one i wouldn't want to push it. I also bought one has my first fish (duh) I learned a lesson, but he eats everything and has been in my tank for over a year. Gorgeous fish but i wouldn't want to try my luck again, and destroy a beautiful creature.

i just jumped in on this thread because of this one comment, rye, how long do you consider to be long term, i have a manderine in a 29 gallon tank he is FAT AND HEALTHY and i have had him for way over a year now. and no i do not breed pods in another tank for him, my tank makes more than he can eat right now.

Sorry Melissa but I've got to agree with Ryan. There are always exceptions but generally a mature Dragonette will starve to death without either a productive refugium or 100 pounds+ of live rock.
Maybe it's the new math but you bought your Mandarin in April. That's hardly "way over a year".

That's excellent that you and your tank are having that type of success with such a creature......most don't.
My 29 gallon tank couldn't produce nearly enough pods for a Mandarin to stay fat and happy for long term.......I would say long term is at least 5-10 years. You seem to be doing something right so far, so I am not saying that I would remove your Mandarin from your tank, but that is an unusual situation for a smaller tank. I will still continue to reccommend people stay away from these Dragonettes unless they have larger, mature systems with excessive pods.
Good luck with your Mandarin. :)
