We're not going to allow this thread to become a bash-fest of any particular religion, so be respectful all.
The major difference between Mormonism and the Protestant and Catholic beliefs is the additional religious books.
The Mormon church definitely teaches issues that, strictly speaking, do not fall into line with the Bible. They reference other religious teachings not accepted by any other "church". That is the major difference.

In response to door to door I don't remember a time [please correct me if I'M wrong] when Jesus or God instructed us to go door to door. Instructions to tell the world, yes. Our role model is Jesus. I can't remember reading of a time Jesus took his disciples door to door. His ministry was first ministering to the basic needs, then spritual needs. People sought him out. If we gave food, shelter, clothing, medical care to those in need, instead of building larger and grander mega buildings for believers to fellowship and worship in, people would seek us out! Just think of how many people could be cared for with the salaries alone. Jesus never ask for or took payment for anything, he gave! I challange you, today, give something to someone in need. Never expecting anything in return, someday you will have an opportunity to witness to that person. God bless all.

I studied it for a year when I was an exchange student in Utah in the mid 80's. I'm Lutherine since birth (98% of Finns are) and I found the mormon religion to be very interesting and because I lived with a mormon family and attended their church for a while, that it would be good for me to know a bit more about their religion.
20 years later I'm still very much in contact with my *second* family and had a great bond with them. Nobody was trying to push their religion on me during my stay and they respected my wish of not going to their church after a few months.
I do believe that if you have a sign at your driveway or at your door that no solicitation is allowed, the mormon missionaries will not come knock on your door. My *2nd* parents went on their second mission once they retired and were in Alabama transfering old church records to microfilm that are held in Salt Lake City.

When I was teenager, I worked with some brothers that were mormon. They were pretty cool kids. I remember they had to go do on some sort of mission for a year but they drank and partied with us as good as any one else so they were ok in my book.
I have no religious preferrence or desire to be part of or practice any of them. I have my own beliefs and people are fine with that. I hate people pushing religion on me. When someone invites me to church, I politely say no. If they get pushy, I tell them I will go to their church if they come to mine which involves sitting out by a pool, drinking very fine top shelf liquor and worshipping a very fine cigar. They usually leave me alone then.
Not bashing the Mormon religion, but I do have a problem with a guy that shows up with a story and gets people to form a religion around him. Of course, there are hundreds of churches popping up all over the place today that follow the same business plan. Relax your beliefs, give people something that makes them feel good and good about themselves and they will show up and give you their money.
As far as nut jobs? Heck, the whole world is one big insane asylum and most of us are just out patients.

The main difference between mormons and christians is that they believe in a book that was written by a man who believed to have recieved a word from an angel. Then wrote down what he heard and it is now the book of mormon.

I agree. I think most Christians are taught from the Bible that God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost(or Holy Spirit) are one and the same. Jesus was God in human form. The Holy Spirit is the spriritual essence of God.
At least that's my take on it.

Ok, I looked it up and there are some great parts of keeping a strong family and anti violence, but I'll stick to my beliefs. {********* edit as it referred to a now deleted comment and was confusing people}

It amazes me that people continue to post offensive comments by making a new account, not realizing we can simply track IPs...
The offender will be dealt with. Sorry to anyone who was offended.
