they all look great, but that's quite a bit of cyano you have going on in there. I'm guessing you don't have sufficient flow and that some other param is out of wack. Those things might make it difficult to keep SPS

i have a koralia 1, 2 and a mag 5 return. thats alot of flow i think. i am also planning on getting a vortech mp10 in the near future. all my params look alright but my nitrates are at around 5 so im trying to get them down. i have been getting pretty lazy on the water changes so i think that could be the root of the problem. on the flipside, im getting great polyp extension on the fuzzy acro though.

k, maybe it's just that the flow needs to be redirected. Anychance you've got micro bubbles coming in from a skimmer or hob filter?

I know I need to lurk around the site and learn some stuff but maybe you can help me a bit to get me on my way. So far I've got about 500gph from 3 (660) penguin powerheads, and a 100 watt heater. What do I need to do to make a functioning saltwater tank now? I've got a 10 gal under it if I need to make a refugium? like you've set up; do I? and I have a regular 15 watt bulb is there ONE bulb that I can replace it with that will allow any live rock to live? Mainly I want inverts, some kind of live rock and maybe a clownfish or something but mostly the above. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

AMAZING BRO I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! but cuddle you and i both know you were ignoring me!!!!!!!! lol
nice man i love the favia and is that an acro in the 2nd pic? couldnt tell. sweet fish! FTS needed

yea thats an acro in the second pic. and i was not ignoring you, i was on vacation, i swear
.
fts tomorrow because the lights are out because the new fish are in the tank.

alright coyle, for your tank i would get a nice protein skimmer in your sump, because you said you are using that 10 gallon as a sump. if you are running a protein skimmer i would skip the canister filter because i do not deem that nessacary. also, i would pic up good test kits and some good live rock (at least 20 lbs for your display tank.) also, depending on what you want coral wise pic up some good lights. i like t5. if you get t5 make sure they are individually reflected with good bulbs ( ati, geisman, ect) also, in a well skimmed and maintained 20 gallon tank you should be able to have a pair of clowns and like two other small fish.
btw, your powerheads sound good, but place them so there are no dead spots and if you want to keep sps, upgrade to stronger power heads like the koralia 1 or two. or if you have deep pockets get a vortec mp10
sooooooooooo nice
good luck and sorry this post was a bit jumbled, maybe others will chime in

Thanks for the info. I am not using the 10 gallon for anything yet but if I need to, and it seems I do, then I will. Don't exactly know what a sump entails but can look that up. I assume it's to circulate the water for aeration.
I'll get a coralife protein skimmer, but for the lighting can I replace my bulb and replace it with just a t5 and keep the hood I already have? Thank you!

alright sounds good.
the main reasons for a sump is to hide equipment (like skimmers, heaters, ect) and also to add more water volume giving you a bit more room for error when it comes to tank levels. i also have all my extra live rock in mine to add more biological filtration.
