Not every second!! LOL
But yeah, these big headed goofballs will take a toll on anyones intelligence level.
Tha't my nickname for Chase. My bigheaded goofball. The boy really has a HUGE head!! LOL.
We tease him about it. Lovingly of course, but I want him to laugh about it instead of be insecure about it.

Any word yet on a possible cause?
I know it's only been 2 days. Did they let you know how long it might take to get scan results back?
Best Wishes

They said it'd take a week, but I prolly will not find anything out til my appt with a neurologist on 24 Feb.
I will keep you all posted though!
I am not sure what I am hoping for. A diagnosis will help explain a lot of things, but it's still a "diagnosis" and nobody really wants that for their child.
bitter sweet I guess...

Well, the EEG results says something is wrong and the next step is an MRI.
When you first close your eyes at night, is when your brains activity is at it's peek. That's when your brain does what it does and is not distracted by what you see or hear. What it does is plug all of the info in your temporary memory into your permanant memory, or as the neurologist said, transfers the info from the grey matter into the white matter. Well Chase's brain isn't plugging anythin. It more or less locks up, and all that he has learned that day goes into the abyss of nowhere.
They said that he is having activity resembling a seizure in one part of his brain that lasts for 4 seconds. If it lasted for 6 it would most likely be a seizure and they think that is why the rest of his brain locks up. The part with the seizure activity is the part of reason that can differentiate, say... your tone of voice. If I say, "Chase sit down honey." or I very firmly snap, "SIT DOWN!!" He hears them both the same. Every single time I turn on the hot fryer to make fries, he touches it. He gets burnt, but he does not see it as a cause and effect type of action.
He has a very one track mind, for example if he hands me his cup for water, I take it and as I am pulling it away from him and toward the sink, he screams because he doesn't understand that in order to get it back, I hafta take it away. He never got that.
They are trying him on a medication called Trileptal, and I have high hopes. He also has an MRI to be scheduled in a month or so...

Well....at least someone has given you something to help understand whats going on with your baby. Personally I am not the kind of person (as most mothers are not) that can stand not knowing.....no matter how good or bad it is. I am guessing that this medication will help with the "connections" and slow down the small seizures? The seizures are short circuiting the connections? I am praying this works!
I didn't know thats what happened in our brains when we sleep...I never get enough sleep.....maybe thats what wrong with me

keeping you in my prayers

I am also that type of mother. My son (who is now 8) had to have an MRI two years ago because he was having really bad headaches. I couldn't stand not knowing, waiting for the results was really hard. Luckily, it turned out to be allergy related.

Oh Tizzo, you, your son, and your family are in my prayers. I can't imagine as a parent how difficult it must be to see your child go through such struggles. Has he started the medication already then? Does it have any side effects that he will have to deal with? I pray that along with the answers you have found, they also find a solution. Keep us posted on how he is doing.

Tizzo I hope the docters are able to find out was is going on your son. he is in my prayers. My wife and I have a son who is almost 2 years old and I could not even imagin going through what you are going through. My mother works with special need children and they have noticed a large trend sfter with speeking with the parents where after vacinations these symptoms have manifested. thier are some doctors sugesting that some of the cases they are seeing could of been caused by infants not being able to handel so many vacinations and it causing nerological damage. But the Vast medical comunity is trying to dismiss this. Just something for you to think about.

He does have all of his vaccines, but I was late for most of them... Months late for one set, so I guess that's good.
And yes Love, you need your sleep! I saw a 20/20 thing where every adult needs 8 hours sleep in a 24 hour period. For every hour you lose, you lose an IQ popint. The sleep can be made up at the end of the week, and the IQ points will catch up, but sleep is very important.
When your eyes are open your brain is processing what it sees, and what you hear. It needs to be uninterrupted in order to "plug" the info to where it needs to be and the seizures are an interruption. There is a point right between your awake and asleep called the theta state. Alpha is when your awake and beta when you are asleep, but the theta is where you think you just found the meaning of life and when you open your eyes it's not only gone, but you can't even remember what you were thinking at all. The theta state is very important, prolly the most important, and that's what he's lacking.
Naturally you are in the theta state for a matter of minutes, but a person who meditates can be in that state for as long as a half hour!! They are much happier, clearer thinking people.
I used to meditate, but haven't done it in years. I had help with tapes called "Zygon" tapes, maybe I should put a pair of headphones on chase right before I put him to bed. I think I'm gonna try that. Get it?? I THINK... HAHA, LOL.

Hi Tizz
I don't know how I missed this thread coming back up. I'm glad to see progress was made. I've heard that neurological medicine is advancing very well. Now that they have a lead maybe they can begin to help your son. You (and your family) must have an enormous amount of patience. We'll keep you in our prayers.

All of my life I have been very forgetful. I can remember statistics, so I am full of useless info, but names, faces, things that change, I cannot remember. It is so bad that if I run into a guy I knew from my past, I don't know if I dated him or if we were just friends...it's that bad. My point is, now that forgetfulness is paying off. Every day I start anew and I think it really curbs my frustration. Chase is a very difficult child to tolerate. He screams as soon as he opens his eyes in the morning and pitches fits all day long. Mostly screaming, smacking walls, and slamming the back of his head into the floor. I never welcomed my forgetfulness so much! LOL
I do get a break when he goes to school though.

I'm glad you finally found something out. I hope everything works out for you guys!
I'm so forgetful too! My dad'll ask me to send out something in the morning and i'll totally forget five minutes later. I'm going to start taking ginko biloba (supposed to help with memory)...

I took that a while back and can't remember if it worked. Lemme know if it works for you. Most of the herbs like that are so diluted down that I quit wasting my money. I was in TN, and tried that "goldenseal root" straight outa the ground...it was like a small acid trip. OK that's an exagerration, I think, and I've never done acid, but my point is that I could really see/feel a difference. So I come home buy it in pill form...nothing. Waste of money.
Lemme know if it works for you and if so, which brand.
